SummaryFreedom Professional Services is seeking a Senior Design Engineer (SCADA) to join our growing team. You will work on complex engineering projects supporting the country’s Net Zero targets, covering the entire energy system from generation to load-end consumers.

Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain SCADA/communication systems for clients across utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, and industrial automation sectors.
- Configure and optimize network infrastructure & communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, PRP, PTP, NTP, Modbus, OPC, Profibus, etc., ensuring seamless integration and secure remote access.
- Understand client requirements and produce network architecture diagrams, IED telecommunication diagrams, SCADA & Telecommunications Panel designs, IP allocations, I/O, and cable schedules.
- Assist with setup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of SCADA systems and associated hardware at client sites.
- Design/develop SCADA/communication systems (e.g., Ignition, Siemens WinCC, GE iFIX) for real-time data acquisition and control.
- Conduct system upgrades, testing, validation, and implement cybersecurity measures.
- Collaborate with teams for system deployment, provide documentation and training, and support Protection & Control Design for utilities.
- Evaluate technical problems, propose solutions, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation like CDM and ESQCR.
- Review reports and drawings by Junior Engineers, mentor, and guide their professional growth.
- Adhere to SHEQ requirements and GSOP standards.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferable)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IET or IEE (highly desirable)
- Knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations & ESQCR
- Full UK Driving License
- Experience with 11kV to 400kV detailed design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- CSCS (or similar) Card (desirable)
- Health & Safety qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar) (desirable)

**Position Purpose**
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, prototyping, testing, and implementing advanced electrical systems and components, as well as the cases, enclosures, and chassis used to house them. They will work on a wide variety of products including rack-mounted electrical/electronic products, hoist & winch machinery conversions and related structural interfaces. They will also spend a proportion of their time helping to maintain and support existing product line.
**Responsibilities**
+ Detailed hardware design of the electrical and mechanical elements of our products from concept generation, through prototype phases, to final detailed design for manufacture.
+ Generate creative design solutions based on sound engineering principles, making intelligent use of proven methods to reduce technical risk.
+ Produce clear and accurate design documents, e.g. schematics, bills of materials, CAD drawings.
+ Build strong relationships with other engineers on Hampton site and across TAIT, taking a collaborative approach to new product design and development, drawing on your experience and learning from others.
+ Work actively with Production team to ensure your designs transfer well to manufacture, seeking feedback to refine your designs.
+ Coordinate with Purchasing team to provide technical input into the procurement process, engaging directly with external suppliers when required to ensure the quality and value of our outside vendor parts and services.
+ Design mechanical components for enclosures using methods for sheet metal manufacturing and CNC machining.
+ Maintain a working knowledge of applicable technical standards, creating and compiling the relevant design documentation to support CE marking, UL certification, and other regulatory requirements.
+ Support the ongoing production of existing products; fault finding, managing obsolescence, and updating legacy designs as required.
**Position Requirements**
+ BS in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical experience
+ Practical electrical design experience involving 3-phase power, motor control, variable speed drives, PLCs, SIL rated safety systems, and associated switchgear
+ Mechanical design experience preferred, with a focus on product chassis and associated metalwork, including knowledge of material science, mechanical connection engineering, and design for environmental conditions
+ Proficiency at using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical to create schematics, layouts, and cable assembly drawings
+ Experience using 3D design software (preferably Autodesk Inventor) to design bent-metal chassis or similar
+ Hands-on prototyping skills, and a desire to help get your designs "off the page"
+ Previous exposure to the entertainment industry is a plus.
