Are you an Assistant or Intermediate Mechanical Estimator looking for the next step in your career? We’re recruiting on behalf of a well-respected and growing M&E Building Services contractor based just west of Southampton who can offer just that.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant or Intermediate-level Mechanical Estimator (around 2–6 years’ mechanical estimating experience) to develop into a fully-fledged Mechanical Estimator working across both pre-designed and design & build projects, supported by a structured training and mentoring programme.
The successful candidate will gain exposure to projects across the healthcare and medium-scale commercial sectors, typically valued between £200k an m. You’ll work closely with senior team members to build your knowledge in all aspects of estimating, with genuine scope to take full ownership of tenders as your experience grows.
The role:
As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be:

A leading mechanical and electrical building services contractor are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their expanding team. They deliver innovative and sustainable solutions across a range of sectors including commercial, mixed us residential, residential and education.
As the Mechanical Estimator you be key in the pre-construction process, supporting the commercial team in producing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical building services projects. You will be involved in tender reviews, take-offs, cost planning, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the best value.
You will be work within an established M&E estimating team in preparing mechanical estimates up to 5 million, so previous experience is essential.
The Mechanical Estimator will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Preparing accurate and competitive mechanical tenders for a range of building services projects using estimating software packages.
- Conduct take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Manage the tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission.
- Attend site surveys or tender interviews as necessary.
- Evaluate supplier and sub-contract returns to ensure compliance with the tender specification.
- Maintaining and updating cost databases to reflect current market trends, material prices and labour costs ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
