Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Senior Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller. You can be based in one of our UK or Ireland offices whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
You will be a key player in delivering impactful water projects across the UK and internationally. We enable the development of significant flood alleviation schemes, pollution reduction, and infrastructure projects, and this variety will be fundamental to your continuous professional growth . A unique aspect of our approach is that our modelling team is fully integrated with the wider project teams, ensuring that our modellers work closely alongside experts in other areas to develop comprehensive solutions.
As an industry leader in Blue-Green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, we work with both public and private sector clients such as Severn Trent, Anglian Water, Northern Ireland Water, the Environment Agency, LLFAs and other infrastructure providers. We deliver Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, Outline Business Cases, hydraulic models, and detailed designs. We shape industry standards by advising and developing guidance that benchmarks best practices, keeping AECOM at the forefront of the water industry. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Deliver: Build hydraulic models and perform verification of sewer networks; run integrated model development, support with the scoping and planning of projects including flow survey verification, and development of catchment scale strategic solutions for flooding and pollution risks.
- Expertise: Deliver technical innovation including application of new technologies; problem solve for our clients and develop scopes and tender responses.
- Documentation: Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate modelling findings effectively using strong communication skills.
- Lead: Mentor and support other team members as part of their professional development and foster positive client relationships.
- Quality: Act as a checker of hydraulic models, calculations and technical reports, to ensure a quality team delivery, and compliance with modelling specifications.

Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, GIS, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a similar subject.
- Experience in Hydraulic Modelling GIS or Data Analysis, in particular ArcGIS or MapInfo.
- Knowledge of Hydraulic Modelling or Asset management, in particular Innovyze ICM or InfoAsset.
- Proven experience in water consultancy.

We are currently seeking Wastewater Modellers at all levels - from Graduate through to Principal - to join leading consultancies across the UK.
Locations
Opportunities are available nationwide, with particular demand in:
Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff, Reading, London (and surrounding areas), Haywards Heath, Brighton, Birmingham, Peterborough, Derby, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Belfast.
Remote working opportunities are also available.
These are permanent positions offering competitive salaries, tailored to individual skills, experience, and expectations.
Role Overview
As a Wastewater Modeller, you will play a key role within our clients' hydraulic modelling teams, supporting major engineering projects across wastewater networks, integrated catchment management, flood alleviation, SuDS, and stormwater management.
Our clients deliver a diverse range of projects for UK water companies, the Environment Agency, Lead Local Authorities, and international partners.
Depending on your level of experience, your responsibilities may include:
- Developing options and solutions, building, calibrating, and verifying complex hydraulic models
- Hydraulic and water quality analysis, including catchment hydraulics and pollutant source assessment
- Integrated catchment modelling - evaluating interactions between sewers, watercourses, and overland flows
- Supporting delivery of Storm Overflow Assessment Framework (SOAF) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) programmes
Candidate Requirements
- Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Civil Engineering, Geography, Water & Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics)
- Experience in urban drainage / wastewater network modelling
- Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software such as Infoworks ICM
- Understanding of UK water industry legislation, policy, and regulatory requirements
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
For Senior and Principal roles:
- Chartered (ICE / CIWEM) or working towards accreditation
- Proven track record in business development, client and project management, and/or team leadership

Our water team also work alongside a diverse range of other WSP business units, providing great opportunities to be involved in an assortment of exciting projects alongside delivering for our core client base.
These roles will enable you to further develop and use your technical skills, applying your expertise to help us continue driving forward in terms of both technical quality and service efficiency.
You will provide support on hydraulic modelling studies for our core regulated industry water clients using industry standard software (InfoWorks ICM/CS), but we also have teams engaged in a variety of projects utilising TUFLOW, causeway flow, our in house FRM and other hydraulic modelling software depending upon our diverse base of clients needs.
You will be expected to work within the existing team to interrogate / enhance models as well as building new models to assess and understand asset performance.

+ Provide technical input on urban drainage projects and support our wastewater team in delivering current and future projects and help influence our future approaches to efficient delivery
+ Support to development of Feasibility studies and optioneering
+ Use of network models to evaluate and optimise Asset Performance
+ Preparation of reports and supporting drawings
+ Definition of work needed by field investigation teams
+ Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships at all levels, coordinating and facilitating project meetings internally and with clients
+ Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises
+ Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences
You will work as part of an award-winning water team within a larger team of over 600 professionals across the UK, supported by our Global Water Team. Our Water technical specialist client is seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller on a fully remote basis in a permanent role, supporting a range of projects.
Our client is a leading water sector technical specialist, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to complex water and wastewater challenges worldwide. With a strong reputation for technical excellence, they support utilities, municipalities, and private sector clients in achieving efficient, resilient, and future-proof water systems.
We are seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller to join this growing, forward-thinking team. You will lead complex wastewater modelling projects, provide technical oversight, and help shape strategic modelling approaches for clients across the UK and internationally.
While the role is fully remote within the UK, there will be opportunities for occasional international travel to the USA (a few times annually) to support global project delivery and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of wastewater modelling projects, ensuring high technical standards and client satisfaction.
- Develop, calibrate, and analyse hydraulic and hydrological models for wastewater and sewer networks.
- Provide strategic technical input to feasibility studies, master planning, and network optimisation.
- Mentor and guide junior and senior modellers, sharing best practices and fostering technical excellence.
