Role purpose and overview

As a key part of The Telegraph’s technical SEO team, you will report to the Senior Technical SEO Manager and be a pod responsible for the site’s technical performance. It is a brand new position that is responsible for the website’s technical health, working very closely with the senior team lead, actioning technical fixes discovered by yourself, the SEO agency and your team lead.

As a team, you will manage the SEO agency, set KPIs around technical health and support the technical lead on being the go-between between product, tech, SEO and editorial and support on a number of technical projects around the business.

The Telegraph is one of the most interesting, exciting websites you could ever work on in technical SEO. With tens if not hundreds of millions of URLs and an as yet immeasurable number of issues and opportunities to identify and action, you have the chance to make a real difference to the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Being the chief support for the technical SEO lead, actioning technical improvements and supporting on technical KPIs and reporting
  • Actioning initiatives from the SEO roadmap and audits, owned by the technical lead
  • Managing and improving the core technical health of The Telegraph from an SEO POV
  • Supporting on technical audits for specific website sections, taking the lead on them in the future
  • Supporting on SEO agency projects and technical project performance
  • Setting up top-class reporting dashboards and suites that can be used by experts and beginners alike
  • Supporting on technical SEO training
  • Working with the Product, SEO, Editorial and Development teams to ensure efficient rollout of projects
  • Developing our SEO as a product offering from a technical standpoint
  • Identifying gaps in our tool, reporting and knowledge offerings to drive efficiencies across the business

Essential skills required for the role

  • Excellent all-around SEO knowledge, with a clear focus on technical SEO
  • An understanding of how to deal with large websites and datasets
  • Ability to understand technical SEO nuances, particularly around indexation, crawl budget and website efficiency
  • An ability to prioritise tasks and projects effectively, delivering quickly and efficiently
  • Experience using Data Studio (Looker), Search Console, ahrefs, Semrush and other core SEO tools
  • Experience using enterprise-level website crawling tools: Lumar (preferably), Screaming Frog, Botify etc
  • Experience working with (or working at) an SEO agency
  • Experience delivering technical SEO strategy(s)
  • Experience working with a development team

About the role

As a seasoned copywriter, editor, or content producer with automotive experience, you'll set the standard for high-quality, customer-focused web content. Your keen eye for detail will ensure our content is engaging, on-brand, and free from errors. In this role, you'll write and edit content for key P&Ls, including landing pages and editorial articles. Your UX copywriting skills will help create transactional content that converts and is optimised for SEO. As an SEO Specialist, you will work closely with our UX teams, designers, developers, strategists, and project managers, to ensure efficient and successful execution of digital experience programs. In this role, you will also help manage both ongoing retainer-based SEO programs, as well as support new consulting engagements. Technology platform or business function agnostic, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both technical and on-page SEO, have the ability to develop a plan that helps clients meet the goals of the business, synthesize data and translate it into recommendations, and collaborate with technology teams to drive successful outcomes for our clients.  

What you’ll do: 

  • Prepare and execute on-page optimization strategies to achieve organic visibility for our clients. 
  • Develop website technical audits to identify areas of concern from an SEO perspective. 
  • Review website server logs, crawl reports, and analytics reports to produce strategies to improve indexation. 
  • Review web analytics data to provide feedback to our internal team on performance, and to analyse visitor behavior and trends to develop next steps. 
  • Work with internal resources to prepare, plan, and execute link building and content marketing strategies. 
  • Coordinate regularly with our website development, SEM, design, and business development teams, as well as with senior management, to ensure that clients are attaining positive outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with the content and outreach teams to help identify opportunities to create, distribute, and promote web content. 

Who you are: 

  • You are passionate about SEO and are dedicated to meeting and exceeding expectations.

What you bring:  

  • 3+ years of SEO experience required. 
  • 2+ years of experience at an agency or consulting firm required. 
  • Familiarity with website analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Omniture, WebTrends. 
  • Knowledge of factors that influence search engine rankings. 
  • Ability to think strategically to identify and define keyword opportunities for optimization. 
  • Well-rounded knowledge of SEO software such as SEMRush, BrightEdge, and ScreamingFrog. 
  • Experience with paid search (e.g., Google AdWords, Bing Ads) is preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Docs. 
  • Experience with Agile methodology (preferred). 
  • Bachelor’s Degree.

As our Digital Marketing Manager, you will have these main objectives:

  • Develop, implement, and manage PayFuture's comprehensive SEO strategy across multiple geographies and languages.
  • Conduct in-depth keyword research, SEO audits, competitor analysis, and technical SEO reviews.
  • Optimise website structure, content, metadata, internal linking, and landing pages to improve ranking and user experience.
  • Collaborate with content and design teams to produce high-performing SEO-optimized assets.
