About the role

WiredScore is looking for a strategic and technically minded leader to head the development of our smart building standards and innovation initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to influence the global standard for building technology while also developing new tools and features that directly impact the real estate industry.

This role blends technology research, product strategy, and industry engagement. You’ll lead the evolution of our certification frameworks and tools, ensuring they remain at the cutting edge of what's possible in the built environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Identify and analyze emerging technologies and trends in real estate, telecommunications, and building operations.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative research to evolve WiredScore’s certification standards and scoring frameworks.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to evaluate and design new features.
  • Lead feasibility assessments using data from certifications and client feedback.
  • Prototype and pilot new ideas that align with our value pillars: tenant experience, asset performance, and investor confidence.

Be a Technical Thought Leader

  • Represent WiredScore’s viewpoint on key tech developments in the built environment.
  • Speak at industry events and support client conversations with technical authority.
  • Stay ahead of smart building advancements and inform strategic decisions across the company.

Optimize and Iterate

  • Work across the full product lifecycle — from research and concept to development and post-launch iteration.
  • Manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously.

What You Bring

Technical Knowledge

  • You have expertise in several of the following areas, and familiarity with the rest:
  • Building/Operator technologies (e.g., Access control, BMS, Lighting, CCTV)
  • Internet installation over fibre, fixed wireless, satellite, etc.
  • Understanding and improving mobile phone performance within buildings
  • Cybersecurity for building technology
  • Smart Building Data Management
  • Building network infrastructure setup, resilience, and integration
  • Able to navigate complex stakeholder environments and clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in cross-functional or matrix teams.

Industry Context

  • Background in real estate, PropTech, smart buildings, or certification frameworks is preferred.
  • Understanding of the needs and motivations of asset owners, developers, and occupiers.

Tools & Tech

  • Comfortable with no-code tools (Airtable is a plus)

Beneficial to have

  • Familiarity with Python, MySQL, or similar scripting/data tools

+ You will be joining our expanding Buildings Technology Services team, as an Associate or Associate Director, with accountability for the technical leadership, project management and delivery of projects from inception through to handover to the client.
+ At WSP our Building Technology Systems (BTS) team are providing Smart, ICT (Information and Communications) and AV (Audio Visual) design. We're looking for an Associate or Associate Director to join the UK Building Technology Systems team with a background in technical smart building integration & system architecture.
+ Contribute to our ongoing success and help us build towards delivery of a growing order book
+ Take a key technical leadership role leading from concept stage through to detailed design, managing technology design & systems integration design activities on multi-disciplinary design projects in coordination with Architects, Engineers, and specialist consultants
+ Collaborate across WSP with specialists in areas like Security, Lighting, ICT, VT, AV to develop holistic and comprehensive Smart Buildings solutions.
+ Engagement with wider design teams across multi-disciplinary projects to advocate for and achieve desired smart building outcomes that are outside of our direct design responsibility.
+ Create future-ready buildings delivering great user experiences innovating the building landscape 
**Your Team**
+ We work on a variety of projects, helping clients to navigate and embrace emerging technologies. We work closely with building owners, tenants, and developers from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on user experience, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
+ Our UK Building Services Team is delivering projects ranging from High Rise Towers such as 22 Bishopsgate and 40 Leadenhall, to hyper scale Data Centres, to Stadia such as Fulham Football Club to transformative Healthcare projects such as the Monklands Hospital digital twin.
+ As leaders in Building Technology consultancy, our aim is to set the standard for providing specialist ICT and Smart Consulting to clients across the built environment.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Project management and technical delivery leadership experience of medium to large smart building projects
+ Experience and capability in the commercial and technical management of projects using appropriate business tools
+ A proven ability to win work and can support our growing BTS offer in London and Birmingham
+ Leadership potential, capable of communicating technical detail graphically and effectively with other members of the project team, stakeholders & clients.
+ Experience providing guidance and developing staff to deliver across complex projects
+ A detailed understanding of specialist building systems including MEP, BMS, fire safety, lighting and security systems, the ICT infrastructure aspects of deploying modern smart buildings
+ Industry leading knowledge of physical and digital technologies, the market position in the built environment, technology trends across sectors, global initiatives, key market players
+ Design and specify implementation of these technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation
+ Demonstrate enthusiasm for AI, with a keen interest in discovering its potential applications and innovations.
+ Awareness of smart building technology trends including standardisation of Device and Point Naming such as the BDNS initiative run by the Open Data Institute.
+ Familiarity of Post Occupancy Evaluation and Design for Performance initiatives such as the recently launched NABERS UK framework.
+ In depth knowledge of smart building rating systems such as SmartScore, Smart Building certification; Awareness of relevant industry accredited certification such as WELL, LEED, BREAAM, etc
+ Experience providing guidance and developing staff to deliver across complex projects
+ Ability to create and interpret technical documents including reports, diagrams, drawings and specifications.
+ CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) / Engineering Council accredited or specific experience that will lead to Chartership
