Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of smart grid architectures, including microgrids, energy storage systems, and distributed energy resources (DERs).
- Analyse grid performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions for enhanced reliability and efficiency.
- Develop and manage projects related to grid modernization, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and regulatory affairs, to integrate new technologies and strategies.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in energy technology, grid standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in grid modernization, power systems, or renewable energy integration.
- Strong understanding of grid operations, power flow analysis, and protection schemes.
- Proficiency in simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, or similar.
- Experience with DER integration, energy storage, and smart grid technologies.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) is essential.
- Familiarity with grid simulation and modelling tools.

This senior role is critical in driving innovation and ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of next-generation electrical infrastructure. You will lead a team of talented engineers, overseeing the design, specification, and integration of advanced technologies such as distributed energy resources (DERs), energy storage systems, smart metering, and advanced grid control systems. A deep understanding of power systems, control theory, and communication networks, combined with strong leadership capabilities, is essential for success. - Lead the design and engineering of smart grid systems, including grid modernisation projects, microgrids, and renewable energy integration solutions.
- Develop system architectures and specifications for advanced grid technologies, including SCADA systems, distribution automation, demand response, and energy management systems.
- Oversee the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), such as solar PV, wind, and battery storage, into the existing grid infrastructure.
- Perform power system analysis, including load forecasting, fault analysis, protection coordination, and stability studies, with a focus on smart grid applications.
- Specify and select appropriate electrical equipment, control hardware, and communication technologies for smart grid deployments.
- Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, project managers, and field operations, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Develop and implement robust testing and commissioning procedures for smart grid systems.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NERC CIP) and regulatory requirements for grid reliability and cybersecurity.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of grid modernisation initiatives and technology roadmaps.
- Liaise with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies to present technical solutions and project updates.
- Drive research and development efforts for new smart grid technologies and applications.
- MSc or MEng in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IET or equivalent professional qualification.
- A minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in electrical power system design, with at least 5 years focused on smart grid technologies, renewables integration, or utility automation.
- Expertise in power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
- In-depth knowledge of SCADA systems, communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850), and grid control strategies.
- Experience with distributed energy resource (DER) integration, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrid design.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to guide and motivate engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles as applied to critical infrastructure.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with utility companies and regulatory frameworks is highly advantageous.
