Job Description
London, UK
SnapshotAre you a builder who wants to use your full-stack AI skills to directly shape the future of how Google DeepMind operates?
Join our new Org AI Innovation Team at Google DeepMind! This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced AI and internal strategy, directly impacting how our organization operates. You will be one of the founding engineering hires on a new team dedicated to identifying our biggest internal scaling bottlenecks and deploying targeted, AI-driven solutions to solve them. This role is for innovators who are passionate about using the latest AI models and tools to multiply the effectiveness and creative capacity of everyone at Google DeepMind.
About UsArtificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.
Org AI Innovation Team: Our team’s mission is to accelerate Google DeepMind's progress by using AI to scale complex internal processes and multiply the productivity and creative capacity of every employee. We find high-leverage problems within the organization and apply targeted, AI-driven solutions swiftly, acting as an internal force-multiplier.
The RoleWe are looking for an entrepreneurial AI Deployment Engineer who is motivated by building high-impact internal tools and systems. You will work in a fast-paced, high-agency environment, moving from understanding a team's pain points to rapidly prototyping and deploying a solution. You will tackle a strategic mix of challenges designed to make our entire organization more effective and our individual teams more efficient. This could mean building a cross-cutting tool that helps researchers instantly synthesize findings from thousands of documents, or deploying a targeted agent to automate complex resource allocation requests for our operations team.
You will act as a full-stack owner of internal AI applications, from the backend model logic to the front-end user experience. You'll collaborate closely with teams across the organization—from research to operations—to understand their workflows, identify opportunities for AI-powered improvement, and deliver tools that are not just technically excellent, but are also adopted and loved by your colleagues.
Key responsibilities:- Partner & Problem-Find: Collaborate closely with teams across the business to understand their core challenges, identify high-impact automation or process improvement opportunities, and define the scope for AI-driven solutions.
- Design & Build: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of internal tools and systems that use AI to automate work and increase employee productivity.
- Rapid Prototyping & Deployment: Quickly build and iterate on small-to-medium scale AI-enabled utilities and automations, moving them from initial concept into production swiftly.
- Full-Stack Ownership: Take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of your projects, from initial ideation and architecture to building, testing, deployment, and ensuring user adoption.
- Technical Excellence: Supervise the choices AI is making in areas like architecture and technologies, and be ready to debug complex systems across the stack. Act as a high-trust owner of systems that may handle sensitive data or business-critical logic.
- Stay Current: Keep up-to-date on the latest models, tools, and engineering patterns, and apply that knowledge to your work and to the team's best practices.
We're looking for a hands-on builder with a passion for applying the latest AI techniques to make work better. You thrive in ambiguity, are obsessed with shipping impactful products, love talking to users to understand their needs, and are motivated by seeing your work deliver obvious, tangible value to the people you work with. Your background is less important than your demonstrated ability to build great things.
As a founding engineer on this new team, you will not only build solutions but also play a critical role in shaping our technical direction, operational processes, and team culture.
In order to set you up for success as an AI Deployment Engineer at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- Proven track record of building and shipping high-quality software , from early-stage prototypes to maintained production systems. We are more interested in your portfolio of work and practical experience than formal qualifications.
- Deep, practical experience in modern AI application development. You should have hands-on experience designing and building systems using techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), developing agentic workflows, and leveraging patterns for reliable interaction with models (e.g., structured decoding, function calling, MCP).
- Strong proficiency in Python and a solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, testing).
- A "full-stack" and "product-oriented" mindset; you are driven by user needs, comfortable working across different parts of the technology stack, and have an eye for good user experience.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders (technical and non-technical) to understand needs and deliver solutions.
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Front-end development experience (e.g., with frameworks like React/Vue/Svelte, or simply HTML/CSS/JS) for building intuitive user interfaces for your tools.
- Familiarity with modern AI/ML infrastructure, cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure), and advanced model serving patterns.
- Experience working in a startup or a similar fast-paced environment where you've had to wear many hats.
If you don’t think you meet all of the above criteria, but are excited about the role and can demonstrate a history of building impactful things, please still consider applying! We'd be excited to discuss how you see yourself contributing.
Deadline: 29th July 2025
