Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Area Manager you will:
- Ensure the best performance of large-scale solar assets
- Perform operations and maintenance duties across the portfolio of solar sites in Chichester and the surrounding areas, perhaps travelling further on occasion for business need
- Ensure adherence to all HSE requirements when completing your duties
- Test both DC and AC systems, looking for faults and tracing issues
- Conduct firmware updates and use computer systems to look for issues with the assets
- Gain Authorised Person status after received training
- Consistent inspection, maintenance and testing of the systems
- Looking for trends and using data analysis to see if you can spot any common trends and suggest ways to improve operations as a result
- Occasional assistance with tasks such as solar panel cleaning, some ground maintenance and site CCTV
- Occasional working way from your patch/area and be flexible to help when the business needs this
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Level 3 in electrical installations as a minimum
- 18th edition wiring regs
- Ideally you will have C&G 2391 or equivalent
- A HSE qualification is desired
- Experience within a solar or BESS environment is hugely preferred
- UK driving licence is essential
Personal skills
The Solar Technician role would suit someone who is:
- Flexible with location and in travelling outside of your patch on occasion
- Experience liaising with third parties and troubleshooting
- Experience reading, writing and assessing RAMS is hugely beneficial

Role Description
We are looking for an experienced Solar individual to join our UK Operation and Maintenance team as a Site Technician. The role will involve carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance activities to our UK Solar PV portfolio. The UK O&M team was established in 2019 with the intention of providing best in class service to Low Carbon owned assets. In order to do this it is crucial we have to have the right individuals within our team. We believe in providing the right environment, training and support to allow our team members to work to the best of their abilities, making the most appropriate decisions and taking the correct actions based on relevant scenarios and operating conditions. We always have the sites best interests at the core of all we do.
The ideal candidate will be based from home and preferably located within the Essex, Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire regions. Working from either of our offices in London, Gloucester or Exeter will be required at times.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance activities and manage a preventative maintenance programme to ensure installations are working at peak performance
- Identify/Locate and respond to fault situations
- Understand the contract for each site to enable effective management
- Plant monitoring and analysis (support to monitoring team)
- Compliance with legislation, policies and H&S
- Carry out Due Diligence Site and Paperwork Inspections
- Stock management
- Assist with system upgrade works
- Undertake appropriate training
- Supervision and management of contractors as necessary
Skills & Experience
- Educated to degree level in an engineering field or hold Electrical installation certificate to level 3 City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent or an equivalent electronics qualification
- BS7671 wiring regulations to 18th Edition and a sound working knowledge of them
- City & Guilds inspection and test certificate to level 3 (desirable)
- An experienced professional in the electricity industry a demonstrable track record of successfully managing the performance of operations
- A good technical knowledge of electricity generation and solar park technology in particular
- Competent when dealing with quality standards, best practise procedures, technical specifications and regulatory
- A self-starter with a passion for the renewable energy industry, desire for success and the willingness to challenge the status quo in order to maximise assets’ ROI safely following best practise
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport quickly and develop long-term relationships with all stakeholder groups. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with all stakeholder groups including OEMs and contractors
- High voltage Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person qualifications are desirable
- Full UK drivers licence
- Existing right work in the UK (we are unable to provide VISA sponsorship)

What you'll be doing;
- Carry out work as per schedule supplied by the Services Manager or Supervisor and as per site policies, schedules and procedures.
- Troubleshoot problems with equipment as necessary, and as directed by site supervisors
- Carry out Risk Assessment of Equipment Maintenance Task Lists and ensure these are always kept valid.
- Update maintenance task list and site documentation as appropriate.
- Carry out Periodic reviews of EWI/SOP to ensure documents are always current and valid.
- All work on site to be carried out in accordance with site EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) and Veolia EHS rules and guidelines.
- Flexibility to work on equipment in all buildings, work around Maintenance Shutdowns and be familiar with GMP rules and Statutory requirements.
- Participate in Audits of the Mechanical and Electrical plant rooms and follow up on actions.
- Ensure that the CMMS system contains the most up to date information regarding equipment data, spares and maintenance man-hours.
What we're looking for;
- Electrical experience and good understanding of the basic fundamentals of the various utilities systems
- Senior Trades, City and Guilds or equivalent in Electrical engineering
- Experience with pumps, HVAC Systems, compressors, boilers, steam systems and ancillary services, (DHW skids), chillers, cooling towers, clean steam coilers, Purified Water Systems, CIP systems; general canteen/kitchen equipment
- Good understanding of Preventive Maintenance Systems and Building Management Systems
- Experience within a Computerised Maintenance Management Work Order system environment
- Documented experience of working within Permit to Work System
- Ability to read and understand P & IDs/ electrical drawings
- Understanding of SOP's and with training GMP Engineering systems.
