The primary role of this Research Assistant position is to work on a project under the direction of a post-doctoral researcher , focusing on investigating the role of Myc in acute liver injury regeneration . This research aims to explore how the Myc gene influences liver recovery following injury, providing insights into regenerative mechanisms at the molecular level. The assistant will apply a variety of molecular techniques, including but not limited to cloning , RNA preparation and RT-PCR , basic protein assays , and Western blotting , to evaluate gene expression and protein activity. Additionally, the position requires cell culture experience to maintain and grow liver cell lines for in vitro studies.

A key aspect of this role involves mouse dissection and tissue collection , requiring hands-on experience with animal-based research. The successful candidate will perform animal experiment procedures and handle experimental animals in accordance with ethical guidelines. This responsibility is essential for obtaining tissue samples to study liver regeneration in vivo.

In addition to technical skills, the Research Assistant will also contribute to teaching and learning support , such as assisting in student project supervision and helping with courses on research methods and equipment use. The Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience at King's College London is looking for a passionate individual with experience in stem cell culture and strong communication skills to fill a research assistant position. This role is part of a Discovery Network Award funded by the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which aims to find drug targets for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

The successful candidate will join Dr Jemeen Sreedharan's research group and will be supervised by project co-lead Dr Ravindra Prajapati.  Dr Sreedharan’s group studies the causes of ALS and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) using in vitro and in vivo models, advanced genetic editing, and cutting-edge Omics techniques.

Dr Sreedharan's lab is part of the Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience, which supports innovative research with state-of-the-art technology and offers exceptional opportunities to collaborate with leading scientists in neurodegenerative diseases. The Department is located in the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute at the Denmark Hill Campus of King’s College London.

This is a collaborative project involving multiple laboratories and it aims to find drug targets for ALS and FTD. We will create a nearly complete allelic series of iPSC lines with TDP-43 mutations. This will use a newly developed parental cell line with attP landing pads. We will then turn these iPSC lines into motor neurons and study them using transcriptomics, proteomics, immunocytochemistry, and electrophysiology. This comprehensive approach will help us understand how TDP-43 mutations lead to neurodegeneration.

This is a full-time position (1 FTE; 35 hours per week: Responsibilities will encompass some tasks associated with project management at 0.2 FTE approx. and 0.8 FTE as Research Assistant). T

The post is offered as a fixed-term contract for 18 months with potential for a short extension.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. A BSc or higher academic degree in molecular and cell biology, neuroscience, or a closely related field
2. Minimum 6 months hands-on experience in the culture and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)Proficiency in the operation of state-of-the-art microscopy techniques including confocal and high content microscopy
3. Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature, assess experimental designs, protocols, and interpret research findings
4. Demonstrated proficiency in time management and organizational skills enabling efficient project execution
5. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including delivering technical presentations
6. A strong commitment to maintaining comprehensive and precise research documentation, with a demonstrated capacity for both independent and collaborative work within a research team

Desirable criteria

1. Proficient in advanced molecular biology methodologies including western blotting, RT-qPCR, and molecular cloning techniques

Based in the Department of Geography within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy, the successful candidate will contribute to the King’s Climate and Sustainability Seed Fund project, Extreme event impact attribution for climate litigation (EXACT) .

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an early-career researcher with a strong foundation in law—particularly climate law—or in a related discipline with an interest in climate litigation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Viktor Roezer (Lecturer in Risk, Environment & Society), and in close collaboration with co-investigator Dr Alex Bradley (Lecturer in Climate and Environmental Sciences) and a second GRA with a background in climate attribution science. Together, the team will co-develop and test a novel research framework designed to bridge the gap between legal standards of causation and scientific approaches to impact attribution in the context of climate-related lawsuits.

The GRA will be responsible for conducting literature reviews, supporting the coordination of high-profile academic workshops, and contributing to collaborative research outputs including peer-reviewed publications and funding proposals. The postholder will play a central role in synthesising legal and scientific evidence, helping to establish a robust framework for climate litigation evidence that is informed by both domains.
