VolkerEnergy are looking for an experienced Environmental Manager to join our growing business!
VolkerEnergy is a new business formed as a partnership between VolkerStevin and VolkerFitzpatrick sister companies and Tier 1 contractors in the VolkerWessels UK Group.
VolkerEnergy has been set up to deliver complex EHV underground cable projects with precision and confidence across UK. The work undertaken will include Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects (NSIP).
We are looking for a proactive and motivated Environmental Manager to lead the new business' environmental initiatives and support company sustainability goals. As important will be the requirement to manage the many and various consents and approvals associated with linear schemes which form the majority of the company's workload.
This role will suit someone with experience of applying for and managing environmental consents, permits and licences and practical experience of ground and surface water management and controls.
Key Accountabilities:
Environmental Assurance
- Give guidance, advice and direction to the business to ensure legal compliance is maintained for the life of each scheme
- Contribute to pre-qualification questionnaires and tenders
- Assure that environmental issues are considered at tender and throughout the life of the project
- Ensure all successful tenders are correctly set up to meet legal requirements and comply with all legislation before work starts on site
- Ensure VolkerEnergy sites are compliant with environmental legislation and company and client requirements
- Contribute to the delivery of the VWUK Group's sustainability targets, including carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and resource efficiency
- Report carbon used monthly and as required by clients
- Monitor legislation and industry changes to ensure VolkerEnergy's policies and procedures remain relevant and up to date
- Achieve and retain ISO14001 and PAS2080 compliance
Management of Consents
- Managing the process of obtaining and maintaining environmental permits and approvals for large linear projects, including preparing documentation, negotiating with Regulators, and overseeing environmental assessments.
Communication and coordination
- Represent the business at Group level including ensuring VolkerEnergy and its 2 parent companies are appropriately represented in any working groups
- Attend project meetings at a divisional level representing the environmental and sustainability function
- Communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels in person or in writing
- Liaise with clients and Regulators
- Build strong relationships with regulators, advisors, and NGOs
- Be comfortable challenging the status quo
About you
- You will have an excellent working knowledge of environmental legislation and its application within an engineering and construction environment, ideally the energy infrastructure sector or with linear projects.
- You will have experience of construction sites and be able to carry out environmental inspections, incident investigation and training and support of operational staff as well as the management team
- You will be required to provide advice on all business environment aspects and impacts such as waste, water management, permits and licences.
- Previous experience and understanding of BREEAM Infrastructure, CL:AIRE DoW CoP, PAS2080 and ISO14001 is desirable
- You will be a Chartered Member of ISEF or equivalent.
- There will be a requirement to travel and spend nights away and you will need a full driving licence.
- British National due to security requirements.

Team Management: You will form and manage high-performing project teams, inspiring and energising them to deliver exemplary work.

We are seeking to grow our world class team to ensure we continue to deliver the high calibre of service and technical excellence both we and our clients expect. We are involved in many key projects of regional and national significance, which we deliver alongside our core UK and global framework projects.
With a strong pipeline of confirmed work moving into 2026, we have an opportunity for a Site Manager (Geo-environmental) to join our team. This role is specifically to support large scale ground investigations and will require a large proportion of working on site and travelling within the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of projects, working closely with and being supported by team members, project managers and project directors. Activities will typically include management of team members and contractors (e.g. drill rigs).
The role will be predominately site based. Site works are dependent on active projects with travel to and working on sites across the whole of the UK.
**Your Team**
The post will be within our Ground & Water team which is a service line in WSP's Earth & Environment business.
Our team of over 180 professionals at all grades provides land contamination management services to private and public sector clients in the property, government agency, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors. We have expertise across all aspects of contaminated land meaning we have the means to support and develop career development. We have several exciting projects in the pipeline including supporting with the energy transition, infrastructure and nuclear decommissioning.
**The Key Responsibilities**
+ Management of site investigations.
+ Management of field work including soil logging and environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling and ground gas monitoring.
+ Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with procedures and to the highest safety, health and environmental standards
**Experience**
+ Knowledge of the requirements for planning, and management of site investigations
+ Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application to safe design and implementation of site investigations
+ Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS is desirable
**We're looking for someone who:**
+ Has a full UK driving licence (or equivalent) - this is essential to the role

**Qualifications**
+ Site safety qualifications (e.g. first aid training and site management safety training scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent).
+ Relevant technical degree is desirable but not essential e.g. chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, or environmental science
+ Able to travel to sites across the UK as required

As a Workplace Health & Safety Real Estate Due Diligence & Remediation Manager, you will be responsible for partnering with various stakeholders and teams around the world to support real estate transactions. You will perform transaction related due diligence, scope and manage remediation projects, develop Amazon standards and policy, and implement and execute the requirements of the program. In this role, you will assist in managing these programs at the corporate level and ensure that risks and liabilities are appropriately evaluated and mitigated as a part of our transactions.
To be successful in this role, you will possess exceptional organizational and communication skills and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You possess site assessment and investigation program knowledge, understand the regulatory environment, and demonstrate this expertise when working with internal and external teams.
Key job responsibilities
- Provide a single point of contact to transaction teams to support them on understanding and executing Amazon's due diligence program.
- Complete reviews of due diligence-related information including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, historical reports, regulatory agency assessments, health-risk assessments and vapor mitigation plans.
- Evaluate and investigate potential exposure risks from building materials or property conditions including but not limited to asbestos containing materials, lead-based paint, and vapor intrusion.
- Scope and manage phase II site investigations.
- Perform Vapor Intrusion Screenings and Health Risk Assessments.
- Provide support and training to a wide range of teams and partners to increase knowledge and efficiency.
- Draft mitigation plans for construction management of contaminated soil and groundwater as required during our renovation activities.
- Liaise with Real Estate, Legal, Construction and Launch teams about required mitigation and ongoing oversight and management so that business may use contaminated sites.
- Provide review and feedback for work performed by contractors, developers, and consultants.
- Assist RE legal with drafting protective language concerning hazardous materials and pre-existing contamination.
- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with property owners and their representatives, consultants, and legal advisors to maintain and develop professional and effective relationships.
- Demonstrate that you can prioritize and lead multiple projects and assignments concurrently.

Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or related field of study.

- Possess knowledge and experience of ASTM Phase I standards and other environmental protocols, understand core business and legal concepts of business transactions, with continued interest in working on transactions.
- Experience in development and implementation of standards, policies and programs.
