About The Team
The Solutions Engineering team partners with our clients to realise their full potential through the adoption of Airwallex products that drive their growth and success. We influence revenue growth across our entire product portfolio and collaborate with sales, strategy, product, and engineering teams to provide the best experience for our most valued customers. Our team works alongside commercial teams throughout the pre-sales, solution design, and API integration stages, serving as the single technical point of contact and trusted advisor for our clients. We are committed to empowering businesses with the tools our clients need to succeed in a dynamic market
What You’ll Do
As a Solutions Architect within the Solutions Engineering team, you will be working closely with our commercial leaders, GMs, CTO, and product leaders to establish a win-strategy for our most strategic enterprise clients from a technical perspectives. This role is primarily focused on pre-sales discoveries and solutioning, with a strong emphasis on supporting GTM enablement efforts. Your critical thinking capability, expertise in payments, and executive engagement skills will be critical in helping our customers realise the full benefits of our technologies and leading us to successful implementation and go-lives. As our team continues to grow, you will play a pivotal role in shaping its future and driving impactful results
This role is based in London.
Responsibilities
- Drive thought leadership and build executive relationships with key business and technical stakeholders
- Develop white paper / competitor studies / support “how to win” strategy development with the enterprise commercial, strategy, and marketing teams
- Own pre-sales activities for strategic customers from technical perspectives, owning RFP process and develop proof of concepts
- Act as the voice of the customer to inform our product team on insights, trends, and opportunities across the markets
- Oversee end-to-end implementation delivery for the strategic accounts with support from solutions engineers
We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, with strong academic achievements
- At least 10 years of experience working in a similar customer-facing engineering role such as solution consultant, solutions architect, sales engineer, for a global software enterprise or payments company
- Executive engagement skills and presence, with an ability to establish strong relationships with key decision makers and build credibility at all levels
- Strong organisational/time management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities while working with multiple opportunities and customers
- Strong problem-solving mindset, comfortable working with customers, partners, and the Airwallex Engineering team to develop new products and solutions
- Knowledge of the payments domain / financial services will be advantageous
- At some point in your career you will have been hands on developing product solutions either internally or in a consulting role
- Passionate about learning and actively seeks out knowledge
- Ability to work independently and confidently to develop a path forward with customers under ambiguous circumstances.
- Strategic and creative thinker who can proactively identify challenges and maintain a positive approach when facing difficult obstacles.

Typically, this person will:
Work alongside engineering and project teams to produce electrical and mechanical drawings. The role demands a thorough understanding of relevant technical standards and electrical regulations, including BS7671 (18th Edition) wiring regulations and the Electricity at Work Act. The System Design Engineer will develop design concepts from first principles, prepare detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, and ensure compliance with manufacturing techniques and material properties. They will take ownership of assigned tasks, making proactive decisions and managing priorities effectively to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and responsibilities of the System Design Engineer:
- Produce high-quality electrical and mechanical design drawings in accordance with recognised drawing standards such as BS888:2017. li>Ensure all designs comply with BS7671 (18th Edition) wiring regulations , the Electricity at Work Act, and relevant EU electrical safety directives.
- Develop detailed design concepts with strong engineering design skills and a good understanding of manufacturing techniques and material properties.
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings adhering to ISO standards using a CAD tool of choice (candidate input on software selection welcomed).
- Create STEP files for customer/client transfer as required.
- Prepare Visio diagrams to support company-wide documentation needs.
- Apply expertise in the design and manufacture of electrical enclosures such as control panels and 19” racks. < i>Collaborate effectively with internal departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and external customers to ensure positive project outcomes.
- Take ownership of tasks and deliver outputs proactively and independently, prioritising work efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Adapt to changing priorities and handle uncertainty within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and requirements for the System Design Engineer:
- Minimum qualification of HND, HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent relevant engineering certification.
- At least four years of experience producing electronic and mechanical drawings in significant quantities; ideally five years in electrical/systems design.
- Proficient user of CAD software such as AutoCAD; experience with electrical CAD tools (e.g., SEE Electrical or ETAP) is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition) wiring regulations , EMC, and LVD standards is essential.
- Experience working within an electrical engineering regulatory environment for installations.
- Ability to produce a consistently high standard of work meeting or exceeding customer requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrable "can-do" mentality with resilience to manage workload under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Eligibility to hold SC Security Clearance or ability to obtain it.
- Competent with standard office applications and remote working tools.
