Job Description
Are you passionate about Teaching and Learning and dedicated to making a positive impact on young people's lives?
The team at Malet Lambert School are looking to appoint a Teacher of Design & Technology (maternity cover) who will play a pivotal role in providing a high standard of teaching and learning to support students of all backgrounds and abilities. The role is a mixture of Design and Technology across KS3 and a mix of KS4 Textiles. We are looking for someone who can teach any subject across Design and Technology but knowledge of KS4 Textiles would be preferred.
Starting in January 2026 (or sooner), The role is up to full time and will be paid on TEAL's qualified teachers pay scale (points 1 to 9). If you are interested in working on a part time basis, please get in touch as we would be happy to explore this further with you.
Why choose us?
Malet Lambert is one of the top performing schools in Hull, where our commitment to pastoral care underpins the high expectations that we have of both pupils and staff. We have a long and proud history, dating back to 1932. We are fortunate to have such a caring, skilled and dedicated set of teachers, associate staff and governors here at Malet Lambert; ultimate professionals who are dedicated to the pupils and effective running of our school. We are proud of our school and would welcome the opportunity to give you a tour, so please don't hesitate to contact Mollie Poskitt, HR Officer on or by email via if you would like to visit or find out more.
Within The Education Alliance Multi Academy Trust, there are lots of opportunities for collaboration and also further opportunities to develop and progress. As a trust, we are here to make great schools and happier, stronger communities so that people have better lives.
For too long in many schools, staff have been asked to choose between being seen as good at their job and being a good mum, dad, partner, son, daughter or friend. We are doing everything we can to support our staff to balance the demands of their jobs and those at home.
To support this, we:
- Trust our staff to plan, prepare and assess at the best time for them, allowing them to go off-site in their PPA
- Have centralised our Behaviour Policy so teachers are freed up from supervising detentions
- Demand ethical leadership built on professional trust
- Reject fads and ensure our CPD is evidence-informed and predominantly subject specific
- Have reduced data collections to twice yearly
- Do not expect staff to respond to emails outside normal working hours
- Do not deploy staff at other Trust schools unless it is at their request
We have removed the following:
- Performance management objectives and performance-related pay
- Lesson observations and high stakes, toxic accountability
- Onerous marking policies
- Requirements for daily or weekly lesson plans
Above all, we recognise that seeking to remove the number of tasks staff undertake will have little effect on improving work/home balance if this happens within a toxic culture. To support this, we offer training for our leaders to ensure they are able to translate our values into behaviours which are built on the principles of dignity, respect, professionalism and integrity.
We offer a range of benefits, including:
- Ethical leadership, professional trust and autonomy and a caring ethos in which everyone is valued and respected.
- A great programme of CPD and opportunities to collaborate with other teaching professionals across TEAL.
- Family friendly policies, including sector leading Maternity, Adoption and Neonatal care pay offers.
- Opportunities for flexible working
- Well-being support including discounted East Riding gym membership; free annual flu vaccinations; refund of the cost of the annual NHS prescription prepayment certificate; access to a free employee assistance scheme 24/7 with advice on a wide range of practical issues ranging from legal information and consumer issues to specialist counselling or our virtual GP service.
- Access to our staff benefits platform which includes big brand discounts and other financial incentives including a cycle to work scheme offering discounted bike purchases
- Membership of the Teachers' Pension Scheme.
