**Position Purpose:**
To assist in the day to day operation of the plant for the receipt, treatment and disposal of clinical waste, so as to achieve maximum plant availability and productivity in accordance with company operational procedures and legislative obligations or requirements.
**Key Job Activities:**
Unloading of vehicles and trailers (site specific).
The effective manoeuvring of waste on the plant and weighing of containers.
To ensure that the waste containers are emptied, cleaned thoroughly and readily available in a suitable 'empty' storage area ready for collection.
To co-ordinate the paperwork and reception of all deliveries to the plant, including that of suppliers and contractors.
To oversee the safe handling into containers by the respective deliverer, in the event loose waste is delivered to the site
Operate fork Lift truck if required
To participate in plant shutdowns as necessary.
To maintain company operational records and data, specific to the job function
To draw attention to Management any major defects, concerns or problems to the equipment or building, prior to actioning.
To work under the directions of and assist the Shift Supervisor and Plant Manager in his or her duties in the event of a breakdown or controlled stoppage.
To observe and comply with all safety notice and signs and to ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and proper manner at all times.
To attend training courses or instruction specific to the job as required.
Additional duties as necessary to ensure safe compliance and continuation of operations of the plant.
To comply with company health & safety procedures.
**Education:**
**Experience (EMEAA):**
Self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic.
A team player, well able to work effectively under pressure and who is looking for a challenge.
Good health record.
Able to work on own initiative.
Punctual.
Demonstrate a flexible approach to hours including shift work.

Astute's Power team are partnering with a leading Waste Management company who's newest plant is currently under construction. When complete this plant will be capable of processing over 400,000 tonnes of waste per year, producing an estimated 49MW of electricity. This process provides a sustainable alternative to landfill, using household, commercial and non-hazardous industrial residual waste, left after recycling and composting efforts, as a fuel to generate clean electricity.

We are recruiting for a Shift Plant Operator, the successful applicant will be responsible for the safe & efficient operation of the plant carrying out both control panel and outside duties under supervision of the Shift Team Leader. There will be a focus on improving efficiency and performance to meet targets in plant availability and power production.

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Operate the plant in a safe and efficient manner which includes during normal running, start-ups, and shutdowns along with emergency situations.
  • Monitor the plant through the distributed control system (DCS) to ensure regular supply of fuel into the boiler, maintaining steam pressure and production of power in line with daily targets.
  • Ensure the operational demands of the plant are met along with monitoring the plants emissions to comply with the Environmental Permit and reporting any issues to the Shift Manager.
  • Perform role of Permit Issuer and Designated person for Isolations as required.
  • Supervise and direct Plant Operators, Contractors, and other staff as and when required.
  • Support the maintenance team during outages / shutdowns.
  • Assist with developing operating procedures.
  • Work within the company's safe systems of work, SHEQ systems and relevant legislation.
  • Conduct front line maintenance, plant inspections, fault finding and fault reporting.


Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally qualified with a minimum level 3 qualification in Process/Engineering/Operations discipline.
  • Completed an apprenticeship and/or three years in a Power Generation/Heavy Process/Maintenance role (Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered)
  • Familiar working on a SCADA/PLC/DCS System
  • IOSH/NEBOSH or a Health & Safety Qualification.


Personal skills
The Shift Plant Operator role would suit someone who has:

  • Previous experience working in a control room environment, with high pressure steam plant including boilers, heat recovery steam generators, turbines, and associated equipment.
  • Flexibility to work Shift Patterns including nights and weekends
  • Comfortable working both at heights and at times outside

Job Title: Geo-Environmental Engineer

Location: Manchester

We are seeking a skilled and motivated geo-Environmental Engineer to join a successful contaminated land team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, professional geologist, with a passion for delivering high-quality consultancy services in the geotechnical, geo-environmental and remediation sectors. You will play a key role in supporting a variety of projects, ranging from small-scale developments to large, multidisciplinary infrastructure schemes.

Geo-environmental Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations, including desk studies, site supervision, and data collection.
  • Prepare technical reports, including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, and interpretative geotechnical and environmental assessments.
  • Provide technical advice and solutions to clients, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Undertake risk assessments and provide recommendations for remediation strategies where necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders, proposals, and project documentation.

Required criteria:

  • A degree in Geology/Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (desirable but not essential).
  • Proven experience in geotechnical and/or geo-environmental engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of UK regulations, standards, and environmental guidelines
  • Proficiency in contaminated land interpretive report writing and remediation strategies
  • Full right to work permanently in the UK
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Commutable to Manchester

Your day to day geo-environmental engineer duties will include: Conducting site visits to supervise investigations and collect samples. Analysing soil, rock, and groundwater data to assess site conditions. Preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to clients and stakeholders. Liaising with contractors, engineers, and other professionals to ensure project requirements are metand managing project timelines and budgets effectively.
