Experience required.

Essential:
  • UK experience within a public, private or third-sector UK-based clients
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in leading technical inputs and project delivery for a range of network modelling and CSO spill reduction modelling.
  • Proficiency in using InfoWorks ICM modelling software to construct network and catchment models and develop solutions.
  • A solid understanding of hydraulic analysis and design.
  • Ability to build new and troubleshoot existing hydraulic models.
    • Ability to assess sensibility of results, calibrate models and improve confidence in the outputs.
    • Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports to meet industry standards and project objectives both internally and to external Water Company clients.
  • The ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams involved in Water Company hydraulic modelling projects.
  • Capable of conducting checks on technical reports and calculation outputs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

An understanding of:
  • Other types of hydraulic modelling outside of primary expertise (e.g. catchment, SuDS modelling)
  • The structural/infrastructure implications of the hydraulic model outputs.

Desirable Skills:
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status
    • Experience in project management of flood risk or water related projects.
    • GIS and its use in hydraulic schematisation as well as results analysis.
    • Experience in providing technical training and mentoring to junior members of the team.
    • Demonstratable experience in the application of flood risk management legislation, planning policy and industry guidance.

**Your team.**
Our Catchment Science team works across a wide spectrum of services covering water resources and water security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydroecology and hydrogeology. Through our projects we provide high quality technical services and advice to a wide range of high-profile customers in the UK and overseas, including government departments and agencies, the water industry, and a wide range of other industrial sectors, including power, transport, nuclear, mining, commercial and oil and gas.
Over the course of AMP7 Period we saw a significant growth in demand for our skills across the UK Water Company Sector and associated Regulators. This demand is significantly increasing as AMP8 commences, in part due to WSP's position as the go-to consultant for Environmental Destination investigations.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ A track record of contributing to the hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.
+ Experience in the development of rainfall runoff models such as GR6J, together with a sound understanding of model calibration techniques.
+ A solid understanding of wider hydrology approaches that are often required for water resources applications in England and Wales, including flow naturalisation / decomposition and development of reservoir mass balance models.
+ Some familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches such as Aquator, PyWR, MISER.
+ A good understanding of the latest UK water resources management regulations including the Water Resources Planning Guidelines and WINEP guidance such as Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination.
+ An understanding of approaches to assessing climate change resilience, including familiarity with UKCP18 and associated data products.
+ Supervision of small hydrology teams, mentoring, developing and supervising junior colleagues, with opportunities for formal People Management.
+ An attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance, to include the production of high quality client and stakeholder/regulator facing deliverables.
+ Programming experience would be advantageous (e.g. Python and/or R), together with an interest in developing these skills.
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to write high quality concise reports
+ Working collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to deliver the hydrological aspects of a wide range of challenging and engaging projects.
**Qualifications:**
+ A water-focused MSc (e.g. hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management etc.) and BSc in related subject (e.g. physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering, etc.)
+ You will have gained, or be working towards chartership with a relevant professional body
