To support the Chief Information Security Officer in managing and reporting the Information Security Risks faced by Technology Services (TS) in delivering AJ Bell’s systems and services. This role is responsible for facilitating the secure delivery of AJ Bell’s technology and business change. The Information Security Architect will play a lead role in designing and implementing security controls and processes. Key to this is assisting and supporting our colleagues in achieving their goals, but in a secure manner.nResponsibilities
Subject matter expertise for security best practice, ensuring the maintenance of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of AJ Bell’s systems and data.nDesign and implementation of enterprise security technology controls and platforms, following industry best practices.nSupporting and advising on projects and change initiatives to ensure that there is no negative impact on our security posture.nCarrying out internal security reviews both on solutions we develop in house and third-party solutions.nSupporting audit and due diligence activities within Technology Services.nWorking with Information Security, Infrastructure and Architecture to define security standards.nActs as an integration point between the CISO and AJ Bell business and technology teams to ensure security is embedded across the organisation.nTechnical Skills
Demonstrable experience of implementing enterprise security platforms.nPrevious experience of delivering and maintaining technical enterprise security solutions across areas such as End Point Protection, Cloud Security, Network Security, DevOps, Security Monitoring & Remediation (advantageous).nKnowledge of Secure Software Development Life Cycle best practices.nStrong understanding and knowledge of Information Security risk management tools and techniques.nExperience of security governance and compliance, ideally gained in financial services organisations.nDemonstrable understanding of Information Security control standards and frameworks e.g. ISO27001, NIST, PCI DSS.nAwareness and understanding of the Information Security threat landscape.nDeep understanding of Information Security solutions and controls.nExperience of Cloud security solutions and standards (highly advantageous).nCompetence, Knowledge, And Skills

The OpportunitynAs a Security Architect you'll take responsibility for supporting the design and delivery of secure solutions across a range of IT and business initiatives. You will work closely with a team of experienced security architects and technical specialists, engaging across technology teams and business units to define and embed effective security practices, processes and controls into projects and change delivery.
What you'll be doingnAs the subject matter expert in cloud security, with a strong emphasis on AWS, you will ensure that security considerations are incorporated into cloud platform and service design. You'll help shape security patterns and contribute to strategic cloud initiatives across the organisation.
You'll identify risks and recommend security controls aligned to organisational policies and architecture standards, deliver security input into projects and technical change, ensuring that security is embedded from the outset, and you'll develop artefacts such a security designs, threat models and risk assessments to support solution delivery.
The Security Architect will produce clear and concise documentation, maintaining alignment to internal governance processes and you'll take accountability for the accuracy and relevance of your security designs and advice.
You will take responsibility in engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business and technical domains to ensure Secure by Design principles are upheld. You'll ensure the security input into designs supports the delivery of secure, resilient, and compliant services while aligning with project timelines and budgets.
Who you arenYou will have strong technical knowledge of cloud security controls and experience contributing to cloud transformation programmes, particularly with AWS, including cloud-native services, identity architecture and platform-level controls.
You'll have proven experience of delivering security architecture or security design across a variety of IT projects, ideally within large, complex, or regulated environments such as critical infrastructure, defence, government, or large-scale enterprise.
You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex security topics into actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels. You'll bring a pragmatic mindset to problem-solving, balancing ideal security outcomes with business priorities.
We're looking for someone with hands-on experience in risk assessment, threat modelling, security control selection, and integrating Secure by Design principles into technical delivery. You'll also have experience working within Agile and DevSecOps environments, including CI/CD pipeline security and secure coding awareness.
