Our COO Teams are the engine that powers Open Cosmos’ operations. This division brings together mission management, supply chain, and quality & product assurance to make sure every mission is delivered smoothly, reliably, and to the highest standards. Working in the QPA TeamAt Open Cosmos, our Quality and Product Assurance (QPA) team is central to ensuring that everything we deliver meets the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety. The team is dedicated to embedding quality into every stage of our work — from design and development through to production, testing, and launch — ensuring that our satellites and systems are ready to perform their mission with confidence.
What will you be doing?As a Quality Control (QC) Engineer, you’ll be a hands‑on presence providing quality oversight during build, integration, and test activities. You’ll work closely with Engineering, AIT, Supply Chain, and suppliers to ensure only fully compliant hardware and software progress through the production lifecycle.
You’ll:
- Perform incoming, in‑process, and final inspections of mechanical, electrical, and electronic hardware in line with ECSS, ISO9001, and internal quality requirements.
- Verify compliance against engineering drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Provide quality oversight during AIT activities, including integration, testing, and environmental campaigns.
- Raise, document, and track non‑conformances, deviations, and waivers, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Participate in Material Review Boards (MRBs) and support implementation of agreed dispositions.
- Ensure configuration management and full traceability across design, build, test, and delivery phases.
- Review manufacturing, inspection, and test documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Support supplier quality activities, including source inspections, incoming acceptance, and follow‑up on supplier non‑conformances.
- Contribute to formal reviews (PRR, TRR, QR, FRR) by providing inspection status, quality metrics, and evidence of compliance.
- Maintain accurate quality records in ERP/PLM systems and digital QMS tools.
- Identify recurring issues and trends, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support internal and external audits with clear, well‑structured quality evidence.
You’ll have a practical, detail‑driven mindset and enjoy working close to the hardware, ensuring quality is applied, verified, and documented at every stage and bring:
- Hands‑on application of Quality Control activities within a regulated engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of ECSS, ISO9001, and relevant space or aerospace quality standards.
- Capability to perform inspections, testing, non‑conformance reporting, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
- Understanding of configuration management, document control, and traceability requirements across the product lifecycle.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross‑functional internal teams.
- Comfort using ERP/PLM systems and digital QMS tools to maintain accurate quality records.
This role is based onsite in Harwell, Oxfordshire.
If successful you’ll work a rotating 24/7 shift pattern, supporting continuous assembly operations and satellite production while helping ensure key manufacturing milestones are delivered and coverage is maintained at all times.

The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. Covering engineering, product development, and technical innovation, the team designs, builds, and operates the satellites, systems, and platforms that make our missions possible. It’s a highly collaborative environment where ideas become real hardware, software, and data solutions that deliver impact from space.
Working across the full mission lifecycle, the Mission Operations team is responsible for safely operating our satellites once they are in orbit.
What You'll Be DoingAutomation plays a critical role in how we operate satellites and test them at scale. As an Automation Engineer at Open Cosmos, you’ll help build the tools and frameworks that make our mission operations more reliable and our production testing more efficient.
You’ll be working on automation that supports the full mission lifecycle — from simulations and test campaigns on the ground to live spacecraft operations in orbit. You’ll work closely with mission operations, production, and engineering teams to embed automation into real workflows that matter.
- Building and improving automation frameworks for mission operations and production testing
- Developing tools for automated data processing, trend analysis, and reporting
- Defining and applying best practices, standards, and documentation for automation systems
- Integrating automation into OpenSat, OpenApp, and OpenOPS platforms
- Providing technical support during automation rollout into operations and test environments
- Creating and supporting training materials for automation tools and workflows
- Taking part in reviews of system updates, mission control changes, and automation opportunities
- Supporting automated workflows during live missions and production test campaigns
- Developing automation for routine and time‑critical flight operations
- Implementing automated procedures within the Mission Control System
- Improving monitoring, anomaly detection, and operational insight tools
- Building automation for functional testing and production workflows
- Developing tools for automated analysis of integration and test data
- Supporting test environment setup within the Mission Control System
- A strong ability to design automation solutions for complex systems
- Solid programming skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and related tooling
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles
- Confidence working in Unix‑based environments
- Understanding of flight operations, telemetry, and spacecraft behaviour
- Familiarity with mission control systems and ground segment concepts
- Knowledge of test automation approaches and integration testing
- Awareness of spacecraft subsystems and test campaign workflows

Working in our Chief Operating Office (COO)Our COO Teams are the engine that powers Open Cosmos’ operations. This division brings together mission management, supply chain, and quality & product assurance to make sure every mission is delivered smoothly, reliably, and to the highest standards. Our Harwell site is home to our UK satellite development and integration facilities, where hardware is built, tested and prepared for launch.
We’re hiring two Inventory & Logistics Coordinators to support our operations across our Harwell facilities. These are inventory-led roles, focused on goods in, goods out, stock control and traceability, while also supporting logistics coordination for hardware, equipment and mission‑critical materials.
You’ll report to the Logistics & Inventory Manager and work day‑to‑day with AIT, engineering and procurement teams to keep our programmes moving.
What will you be doing?- Receiving, logging and storing incoming components, tools and consumables
- Managing goods in / goods out processes to ensure accurate stock movements
- Maintaining accurate inventory records across internal systems and spreadsheets
- Supporting stock counts, audits and reconciliation activities
- Highlighting low stock levels, shortages or discrepancies
- Maintaining clean, organised and safe lab and storage areas
- Supporting tool tracking and shared equipment availability
- Assisting engineering teams in locating materials and equipment
- Coordinating inbound and outbound shipments of satellite hardware and equipment
- Liaising with freight forwarders and couriers to book shipments and track deliveries
- Preparing shipping documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, airway bills)
- Coordinating with internal teams to align shipments with production schedules
- Supporting logistics cost tracking and invoice processing
- Understanding of inventory control, goods handling or warehouse/logistics processes
- Confidence managing data accurately within inventory or ERP systems
- Understanding of stock tracking, delivery coordination and material movements
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Clear communication skills with internal teams and external partners.
- Comfortable working in a technical or engineering‑led environment
- Reliable and consistent in following defined processes
- Highly organised and methodical in your approach
- Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and traceability
- Proactive in identifying stock issues or delivery risks
