As a Design Manager at WSP you will lead and manage design projects within the UK's electricity transmission and distribution sector. Working alongside the Project Director and Project manager, you will be responsible for overseeing engineering design work and delivering project management services, ensuring compliance with best practices and UK regulations.

The role sits within a Business Finance team aligned to one of our larger UK Disciplines and will report to the Discipline Financial Controller (DFC), depending on the discipline structure. **A little more about your role.**
We have a great opportunity for a EHV Cables Project Manager to join our UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) team.
WSP's T&D team delivers electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltage levels. This role is to project manage pre-construction and construction activities (from design to energisation) for large-scale high voltage infrastructure and grid connections at voltage levels normally between 33kV and 400kV.
Our projects would include feasibility, detailed design, procurement, construction, test and commissioning on existing or new substations and associated infrastructure.
**What will you do:**
+ Develop EHV (33kV up to and including 132kV) projects initial functional requirement into compliant cost-effective engineering solutions.
+ Project Manage the development and delivery of EHV Cable projects (33kV up to and including 132kV) to time, cost, safety and quality.
+ Interface with customers as well as internal and external resources to develop and deliver EHV Cable projects.
+ Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for developed EHV Cable projects.
+ Effectively communicate with internal engineering and industrial resource.
+ Coordinate external service providers and administer commercial.
+ Visit sites to assess project requirements, meet with project team/contractors, monitor work progress, safety audits, discuss engineering difficulties, etc.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering.
+ Experience managing medium-large scale EHV Cable projects (33kV up to and including 132kV) throughout the full project lifecycle from initiation, specification and design, tendering, construction, energisation through to project closure.
+ A good understanding of electrical distribution plant items such as Switchgear, Power Transformers and Overhead lines.
+ Knowledge of applicable engineering standards.
+ Excellent understanding of the H&S and CDM requirements.
+ An ability to undertake the role of 'Designer' and 'Principal Designer' under the CDM regulations.
+ Ability to travel to client's sites and offices within North East of England and Yorkshire.

Our Development team specialises in providing full lifecycle sustainable development infrastructure solutions, from planning through to detailed design and construction. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Utilities Supplies and Diversions, Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks and Flood Protection for a wide range of projects and clients, which typically include Residential, Sports/ Leisure, Industrial/ Commercial, Educational, Defence and Healthcare Developments in the UK.
**Your role in Utilities.**
The management of Utilities risk is of great importance to our clients. Issues such as capacity shortages, diversionary and protection works, and commercialisation opportunities require a particular skill set to manage.
Your role as a Senior Member of the Utilities Team within Development will involve leading engagement with and advising clients on technical utilities matters and using your deep understanding of Utility constraints and opportunities in managing project teams within the UK and Internationally to find innovative technical solutions and develop designs for implementation.

**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**

+ Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies for small, medium and large schemes in the UK.
+ Rounded understanding of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks, in relation to new development activities
+ Experience of Multi-Utility / iDNO (independent Distribution Network Operators) / ICP (Independent Connection Provider) and commercial risk/opportunities
+ Ability to develop utility demand calculations based on the needs of a development
+ Proven ability to lead teams, manage and work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time and your project teams between them
+ Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with co-professionals and deliver high quality reports
+ Experience in directing BIM teams (AutoCAD / Civils 3D / Revit etc) in their production of quality project models and design outputs
+ Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
+ Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)

**The Role**
**What You'll Do**
+ To manage portfolios of projects related to the water sector across a range of water, ecology and environmental assessment disciplines. An average portfolio might include 1-2 large/medium sized projects and a range of smaller technical specific focused projects (typically ranging from circa £10K - £250K+).
+ Project management that includes ensuring the necessary project data and information (such as risks and issues and financial and resource forecasts) are fed through the appropriate channels and systems, as part of the regular cycle of management and reporting.
+ Work with internal project team to ensure requirements and their inputs are understood.
+ Work with both the internal and client project teams to agree a project plan (schedule) including key tasks, task owners, outputs, delivery dates and dependencies for monitoring and tracking progress.
+ Communicate, monitor and track delivery against the agreed project plan and take appropriate action to maintain delivery if necessary.
+ Provide the client with progress updates throughout the project that reports on progress against project plan, budget, risks and issues, and identifies/tracks any actions required (typically producing progress reports/briefs for discussion at regular review meetings).
+ Record and track risks, issues and changes that could impact on delivery and ensure that appropriate actions are identified, owned and implemented at the right level.
**Key Competencies and Experience:**
+ Project management knowledge and skills related to budgeting, scheduling, resource management, monitoring, reporting and delivery.
+ Ideally experience of project management from a consultancy perspective and practical knowledge of managing projects from start to finish.
+ The ability to manage of a range of multiple projects simultaneously.
+ An understanding of resource management in order to support in the identification and securing of the appropriate capability and capacity from the technical teams across multiple projects.
+ An understanding of the water sector primarily in the UK and the role of our water industry clients (water companies, water regulators and government).
+ An awareness that encompasses environmental assessment associated with our water industry clients (for example, Environmental Impact Assessment, Water Framework Directive, Habitat Regulation Assessment, Natural Capital and Biodiversity Net Gain).
+ Sufficient technical understanding to support our technical leads and specialists to integrate and co-ordinate complex work strands.
+ Experience of stakeholder communications and management
+ Ability to build and maintain relationships with the internal project team, client and other internal and external stakeholders through project activities.
+ Have a relevant degree that ideally demonstrates an environmental background.
+ Preferably a professional qualification in project management.

Our Development team specialises in providing full lifecycle sustainable development infrastructure solutions, from planning through to detailed design and construction. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Utilities Supplies and Diversions, Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks and Flood Protection for a wide range of projects and clients, which typically include Residential, Sports/ Leisure, Industrial/ Commercial, Educational, Defence and Healthcare Developments in the UK.
