You will be an influential member of a co-located, multi-disciplinary team responsible for the descign, development, test and support of monitoring and management systems that underpin BT’s Energy, Power & Cooling domain.

As a lead software engineer based in BT's main office in Glasgow, you will have a hands-on role in designing, developing and integrating the software applications and automation that drive BT’s energy efficiency, underpinning our environmental commitments while enabling the transformation of BT’s network to all IP digital and supporting the resilience and reliability of this vital piece of the UK critical national infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

Positioned within our co-located Energy, Power & Cooling IT Centre of Excellence in Glasgow, your specific responsibilities will include:-
•    Designing and developing microservice-architectured applications  using Java/Spring Boot/RDBMS, employing agile methodologies (SCRUM, prototyping preferred)
•    Responsible for leading software engineering projects within the team, directing a team of a few software engineers/associate software engineers as required, taking up an Agile/Scrum lead role qhere required
•    Responsible for subject matter expertise within specific projects, customer interaction related to the subject and controlling changes within this area of expertise
•    Leverage software development skills to find innovative approaches to problems.
•    Mentoring of software engineers/associate software engineers
•    Object oriented analysis and design using common design patterns.
•    Experience with test-driven development
•    Represent the software team at requirements and design workshops at BT and supplier sites.
•    Experience in evaluating and selecting from competing technology options (languages, frameworks, libraries) for component level solutions.
•    Experience in understanding and applying knowledge from 3rd party technical/regulatory documentation.
•    Role requires integrating software with plant hardware in our Glasgow test lab during the design and development process.
•    Experience in managing IT infrastructure from design and commissioning to on-going support and maintenance

Your Role

As part of the huge growth in demand in our Energy Transition & Utilities practice, we are seeking to recruit Senior Managers to join our highly talented team, working on the pursuit and delivery of major advisory, consulting, and digital transformation services within the Oil & Gas industry.

Our Oil & Gas industry clients include integrated energy companies; upstream, midstream, and downstream sector focused companies; national oil companies; as well as industry equipment and service provider companies.

As a Senior Manager in the business, you will be instrumental in nurturing and developing client relationships; managing successful client project delivery; and developing teams and people. Your role will include the following: 

• Help clients to understand the rationale and business case for change and transformation, leveraging insights on industry change drivers and the capabilities offered by technology, digital and AI / analytics.
• Oversee client delivery workstreams, projects and programmes, leading the team to create impactful deliverables and deliver tangible results and client business benefits.
• Manage client stakeholder relationships and expectations, fostering collaboration and trust in Capgemini brand.
• Apply agile ways of working and adhere to best principles of delivery to optimize project delivery performance and outcomes.
• Manage workstream, project and / or programme team resources, performance, wellbeing, and development, fostering team engagement and successful delivery.

Your Profile

We are looking for candidates with a proven consulting track record of delivering value in their career to date and who enjoy working collaboratively with clients and have a passion for developing people. We would love to meet someone with:

• Sector Understanding - experience in the Oil & Gas sector, with an understanding of the Oil & Gas value chain and how it needs to change to meet the challenges of the energy transition.
• Consulting Experience - Experience of working in a major business or technology consulting firm, and/or in industry but with a consulting background.
• Adaptability and Learning Mindset - Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, methodologies, and industry developments. 
• Communication and Interpersonal Skills - Ability to articulate complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in report writing, presenting findings, and making data-driven recommendations.
• Project / Workstream Management - Experience in leading and managing projects or workstreams, meeting deadlines, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
• Leadership Qualities - Ability to mentor and develop teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Capacity to inspire trust and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.

You will bring subject matter experience, expertise, and intellectual capital from across a broad range of advisory, consulting and transformation services in the Oil & Gas sector, for example:

• Corporate strategy, business planning and economics, and business performance management.
• Climate change and sustainability, such as emissions quantification and reporting, emissions management and reduction.
• Business operating model design, restructuring and performance improvement.
• Business and technology transformation programme delivery, across areas such as capital projects, production operations, asset management, transportation and distribution, retail and customer management, business support and function management.
• Digital trends, such as Scada, IoT, modular engineering, digital twin and BIM, mobile applications, automation, advanced analytics and Gen AI, energy management, EVs etc.
• Design and deployment of digital transformation solutions and services.

YOUR ROLE

As a Director in our Analytics & AI practice you will be responsible for new business and selling data science opportunities. You will play a leadership role across our AI, data science and analytics capabilities; shaping our strategy, defining our ambition and developing junior members of the team.

In this role you will play a key role in:

• Working as part of the Capgemini Invent A&AI leadership team to grow our practice and develop our offers
• Inspiring our clients on exploiting the potential of Gen AI, data science and analytics in their businesses
• Helping clients embed data science solutions and use insight to optimise and automate business decision making at scale
• Selling, leading and managing large delivery programmes with data science and Gen AI at the core

YOUR PROFILE

• Good existing relationships with Senior Executives of large organisations in the UK, focussed on the areas responsible for AI, Data Science and Analytics
• Experience of shaping the AI or data science services and solutions that deliver the client’s vision, integrated across technology and business functions
• A deep understanding of trends in the AI, data science or analytics market and how these are changing
• Experience in the business application of Gen AI and other AI solutions, for example customer experience, process optimisation, intelligent automation, workplace efficiency, asset management or intelligent search  

• Currently working in a major Consulting firm, and/or in industry but having a Consulting background Proven ability to be successful in a matrixed organisation, and to enlist support and commitment from peers in selling and delivering consulting solutions.
• Experience of proposition building and delivery.
• Business development – utilising a combination of the organisation’s broader pre-existing relationships, company relationships and your own network, you’ll be generating c.£2m of consulting revenues
