About the Role & Team  
Gloucestershire Registration Service is a busy service within Gloucestershire County Council. We are looking for reliable, flexible, highly efficient people with a professional and confident approach. This is a dual trained role that entails learning to officiate at statutory (legal marriage and civil partnership ceremonies) and non-statutory (naming and renewal of vows ceremonies) and to legally register marriages and civil partnerships. You will be required to attend ceremonies in Registration offices, some places of worship, licenced Approved Premises, and non-licensed venues throughout the county.

Enhanced rates of pay for weekend and bank holiday working apply.

Mileage is payable in excess of agreed home to base (commute) mileage when travelling to ceremonies. You must hold a current full driving licence and have a vehicle available for travel on business (you must have appropriate motor insurance), as you will be required to travel to ceremonies countywide.

The role is rewarding, interesting and tests personal resilience as you will be dealing with members of the public who may be highly emotional.

About You
Efficiency, confidence, warmth, and assertiveness are attributes needed to deal with large, emotionally charged groups and to deliver ceremonies. You must be able to learn about and always adhere to strict policy and procedure.

You will need to have a professional and sensitive approach, building a good rapport with members of the public quickly. Ideally, you should have previous work experience of providing a pressured service to the public and experience of interviewing customers face to face. Strong listening skills, interpersonal and computer skills are essential. Clear handwriting, high standards of accuracy and attention to detail are essential in these roles.

Candidates must show ability and confidence to assimilate technical information and have a positive approach to ongoing technical learning and assessments. There is a requirement to efficiently communicate and work with others responsibly and reliably.

Work can be available weekends and/or weekdays throughout the year and is allocated according to your own availability. The amount of work offered varies and is dependent on ceremonies booked by the public.

You will be available for initial technical training (in the classroom and in the field) - training, mentoring and ongoing support are provided. Once signed off in the role you are expected to attend at least two refresher training sessions per year and positively engage to receive feedback from technical assessments in between.

Initially shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day. It is a full day from 09: and will be held at Shire Hall on Friday 12th December 2025. Please note : Attending the full assessment day is mandatory as candidates are further shortlisted from this day to attend individual face to face interviews.

If invited candidates cannot attend the assessment day, they will need to apply at any future recruitment for the roles as the day is mandatory for suitability to be assessed for roles.

Interviews for those successful from the assessment day will be held at Shire Hall on 8th, 9th or 13th January 2026.
