Job Description

Department - IT
Salary - £27,161
Job description
This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week or part time with a minimum coverage of 30 hours Monday to Friday. This role is based in the office.

Do you want to learn more about IT but feel you don’t have all the necessary skills? Do you want to help protect national security and really make a difference?

This role is an excellent development opportunity for someone who has a keen interest in gaining experience and expertise in a wide range of IT support services.

Using our established development pathway, you’ll learn new skills, gain experience and develop an understanding of all areas of our IT department whilst developing a new career. You will receive all the training, support and guidance you’ll need, learning on the job, whilst also having a training budget for external courses. With a hands-on approach, and with all the support you require, you will be treated as a full member of the team and get the opportunity to work with production enterprise IT. This involves desktop device management software, virtualisation software, datacentre hardware, switches, routers and associated network components and enterprise applications.

You’ll undertake various mentored work placements and customer projects which will give you hands-on experience in real-world projects, delivery and workloads. You will undertake placements within the service desk, desktop support, server infrastructure, network infrastructure and application support teams, each providing a different insight into the world of IT and offering a unique opportunity to build an array of IT skills.

Whilst on the programme, you will have the full support of all members of the department, with a dedicated mentor for technical support, and a buddy to support you with navigating the world of a corporate environment.

On completion of the development pathway, you’ll have a solid foundation to begin your career as an IT Technician within the department.

More About You

To apply for this role, you will already have:

An interest and passion for IT and/or Technology.
Have a desire to learn and develop new skills.
Basic understanding of working with computers.
It would be beneficial if you also have one of the following (although these are not essential):

Your Personal Skills

You will be the type of person who:

Is creative. Your curiosity and own style of thinking will bring a different perspective.
Enjoys being part of a team. You’ll share your ideas and learn from others.
Wants to make a difference. You understand the importance of what we do and take pride in doing your best even in challenging situations.
Is open minded. You’re willing to try something new, to improve and learn along the way.
Behaves with integrity. You will be professional, honest and reliable.

Putting your skills to use

As you progress through the development pathway you will:

Develop and maintain the application, knowledge and skills that are necessary to be an efficient and effective IT technician.
Work collaboratively to design, deploy, configure, maintain and enhance COTS and bespoke enterprise IT systems and solutions.
Contribute to preparing our IT estate for future IT technologies.
Work within industry best practices and internal policies, procedures and guides.
Conduct task and ticket (incident/request) tracking, responding directly to users’ requests and issues.
Develop supporting documentation for colleagues.
Practically apply industry specific learning and development directly into your day-to-day work.

What we Offer

Now that we’ve explained a bit about what you will be doing, here’s what we can offer you:
