About Bankside College

Bankside College is an exciting new venture near Hanley Castle, Worcester. Working in partnership with the Outcomes First Group and Options Autism, the College will provide a Further Education experience for those aged 16 to 24 year-olds with autism, complex needs and learning disabilities. The main aim of the College is to help its students prepare for adulthood and their next stage in life.

In a new purpose-built building, situated in acres of natural beauty, Bankside College will provide a varied, individualised curriculum to enable its students to gain vocational and independence skills to help them achieve their aspirations. Our staff will work together as a cohesive team, to provide the very best experience for the students which will include practical activities, Maths, English and Digital Literacy. The curriculum will have a focus on individual targets, personal skills and enrichment which will include The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Some students will also take part in supported work experience, social enterprise programmes, and volunteering.

As a Learning Support Mentor, you will connect directly with the brilliant pupils and young people we care for, helping to make sure they get the very best from their education. Each individual has a diagnosis of Autism and may have additional needs. They have so much potential, and they will rely on you to guide their learning journeys bespoke to them.

You will help support the class teacher/tutor in order to ensure the delivery of a high-quality education for all students. You will support the teacher and/or tutor to all education policies and procedures are implemented in full.  To support the class teacher and/or tutor in organising the classroom, its resources, student groupings and displays to provide a stimulating learning situation appropriate for students with autistic spectrum disorder.

You will face challenges and overcome them as you flourish and thrive, sharing your skills and learning from others as your career takes you as high as you always dreamed you could go.

Every day will be different, but you will have all the support you need, with lots of skills and experience to draw on along with valuable advice and guidance too.

Who we are looking for

You don’t need any experience to join our team. If you come from hospitality, the army, outdoor activity centres or an office-based job but are eager to help vulnerable pupils and young people to live happy, fulfilling lives, this is the role for you. We will provide you with full training and development to succeed within your role.

You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising pupils as they explore further afield.

Location: Norton College, Tewkesbury, GL20 8UQ

Salary:      Up to £43,000 per annum depending on experience (not pro rata)

Hours:     37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.00pm

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only

About the Role

We are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner to join our amazing team. The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching and learning and will have the ability to motivate pupils and develop staff in a team which prides itself as being collaborative and supportive.

You will be able to inspire effective teaching and learning within the classroom and beyond. You will understand the importance of data as a tool to track pupil progress and will identify a wide range of evaluation strategies to lead the development in all aspects its success.

Plan, deliver and teach individual students or small groups, in accordance with the School’s Curriculum framework and related policies, monitor, record and report on student progress and contribute to and help implement developments that relate to the School Development Plan

To take responsibility for coordinating the teaching, development, assessment, recording and reporting of subjects and areas of learning across key stages as agreed with the Head Teacher and ensure Teaching Assistants/Tutors (where necessary) are well briefed and able to produce appropriate and effective resources/teaching aids.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an inspirational teacher looking to develop the SEND provision for all pupils.
  • Be a person who thrives in a fun, yet challenging environment.
  • Be an exceptional classroom teacher with experience in working with SEND pupils
  • Have a proven track record in raising standards and a good understanding of school improvement.
  • Have a passion for building strong relationships with young people through restorative working.
  • Be someone who is resilient and approachable.
  • Be a good communicator who is able to inspire and motivate pupils but also who can remain calm under pressure and have a sense of humour.
  • Be creative in your teaching and strive to bring out the best in pupils.

Essential:

  • QTS
  • Experience of teaching in a SEN environment desirable
