Job Title: Construction Teacher

Location: Meadowcroft School, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF1 4AD
Salary: Up to £38,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

About the Role

Due to growth in service, Meadowcroft School is seeking an enthusiastic Construction Teacher who can inspire pupils and young people with complex learning needs through a highly personalised curriculum.

Our pupils require engaging, creative, and practical learning experiences. This role demands the ability to thrive in a flexible curriculum structure and to fully utilise our excellent facilities to deliver personalised programmes that motivate and challenge.

Reporting to the Deputy Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will carry out professional duties aligned with school policies and uphold the professional code of the General Teaching Council (GTC).

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

  • Take responsibility for the learning and achievement of all pupils in your classes, ensuring equality of opportunity
  • Plan and prepare schemes of work and lesson plans tailored to individual needs
  • Create purposeful, motivating learning environments
  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons with clear, well-grounded expectations to raise attainment
  • Use literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills to enhance teaching and professional duties
  • Assess pupil progress regularly to diagnose needs, set realistic targets, and plan future teaching accordingly
  • Establish fair, respectful, and supportive relationships with pupils, fostering high expectations for achievement

  • Teach practical construction skills in line with personalised curriculum plans
  • Mark and monitor pupil work both in school and remotely as appropriate
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support pupils with challenging behaviour and additional needs
  • Participate actively in school development initiatives and training
  • Commit to safeguarding and the welfare of all pupils

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 1 years' experience managing and coordinating operators
  • Skilled in diagnosing mechanical issues through systematic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proficient in taking apart machinery to understand its components and functionality, as well as reassembling it correctly to ensure optimal operation.
  • A keen eye for detail, which is essential for identifying faults or inefficiencies in machinery and ensuring precision during assembly and disassembly.
  • A commitment to ongoing improvement, which may involve suggesting modifications to existing machinery or processes to enhance efficiency, safety, or performance.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams, sharing insights and collaborating with others to implement improvements and resolve mechanical issues.


What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Take the lead for first line maintenance of several production machines including operational decisions to achieve targets
  • Identify and repair mechanical breakdowns on various machinery.
  • Accountable for the performance of several machines, processes, or pieces of equipment.
  • Using diagnostic tools and methods to identify the root causes of problems.
  • Coordinate a small team of operators and temporary associates to achieve line targets.
  • Assisting operators with daily productions tasks to ensure line targets are met.

To attend customer locations as advised by controller, to carry out preventive maintenance servicing. To liaise with service controller and customer both at the outset and as work progresses. To ensure that all work is carried out to high standards and that equipment is safe before handing back to customer.  Ensure equipment is serviced in line with manufacturers recommendations and that all associated paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner including recording customer signatures.  Take proper care of company vehicle and equipment.

Education and Experience

Either direct experience (around 3 years) or working in a related engineering function, e.g. car mechanic, HGV fitter, Agricultural Engineer former REME or experience on military vehicles such as recovery mechanic or a formal apprenticeship qualification that includes at least C&G level 1, formal training in health & Safety desirable but not essential as further training will be given.  

This position is a great opportunity for engineers with transferable skills looking to get into the plant industry. Training for the role will be provided, there are opportunities for employees in this role to progress into a field service position in the future following further development.
