This role is to focus on the key aspect of M&E systems and ensure their accurate operation and maintenance providing a firm platform for business success.

Shifts will be 7am to 7pm & 7pm to 7am = a 42hr week.

What you'll do
  • Be part of a flexible team maintaining mechanical and electrical systems to avoid disruption to Sky's operations.
  • Chilworth and Fair Oak are Sky's only two satellite uplink sites in the UK. Between Chilworth and Fair Oak, all of Sky's satellite broadcasting is transmitted to the UK. Chilworth also supports our brilliant and innovative new product, Sky Glass.
  • Use our innovative CAFM system to provide timely routine maintenance (PPMs).
  • Work in a business-critical environment on key infrastructure such as power generation, package chillers and Uninterruptible Power Supplies.
  • Support the team in promoting Sky's safe, ethical, and environmental objectives.
  • Flexibility is important as travel to other Sky sites is required as well as undertaking M&E activities occasionally out of normal working hours.
What you'll bring
  • Proven experience within M&E or the engineering field (qualified either by experience or qualification - see below)
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Technically minded with a willingness to learn new skills and procedures
  • A technical qualification BTEC, ONC, City & Guilds or level 3 NVQ with a mechanical or electrical apprenticeship
  • A good knowledge of maintaining and operating large LV electrical systems or large, chilled water-cooling systems in highly resilient buildings.
  • Experience on Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs), PLCs, air conditioning (spilt systems), water treatment and fire alarms
  • Working experience with computer-based systems such as email, CAFM system and BMS
  • Ambitious and committed approach
  • A solid understanding of good Safety and Environmental practices

Our Chilworth campus is situated just north of Southampton. It is easily reached by car, being close to the M3 & M27, whilst there is a weekday bus service that runs from Southampton to the Chilworth Science Park. There's plenty of parking, a bike shelter, and showers.

On campus you'll find a subsidised canteen. You can also blow off steam over a game of pool or table tennis and stay fit at our subsidised gym or enjoy a walk into the nearby countryside, with the Chilworth Conservation area right on our doorstep.

The Role

This is a great opportunity to join the dynamic Engineering Team at our Mars Petcare factory. What you’ll be doing:

Carry out detailed mechanical design and analysis activities to support the development of a complex new product

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure mechanical solutions align with overall system requirements

Act as the Mechanical Design Authority, providing expert-level input across the full product lifecycle

Apply subject matter expertise in key mechanical areas such as thermal management , structural integrity, or material selection

Ensure design compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal processes

Support design reviews, technical assessments, and the implementation of design changes as needed

Your skills and experiences:

Demonstrable subject matter expertise in at least one area of Mechanical Engineering (e.g. thermal systems, structures, CFD, FEA, or propulsion), with the ability to provide authoritative technical input

Proven experience in complex mechanical design, including the design, build, integration, and testing of advanced mechanical systems or products

Ability to collate, interpret and translate requirements into effective mechanical design solutions throughout the engineering lifecycle

Comfortable working within engineering governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, processes, and best practices

Put yourself into a dynamic Power System Design Lead role at the forefront of real world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for our existing products, there will be the opportunity to develop next generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribution to our strategy for new technology. Your new day-to-day will be exciting and diverse by applying the principles of Systems Engineering across the entire engineering development lifecycle as you join in developing radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design of AC & DC power generation and distribution systems including sizing, protection, control, and the specification of power supplies and converters. This covers design and/or specification of an electrical supply system from 440V AC to circuit board voltage rails

  • Motor drives, control, and positioning systems, EMC management and verification

  • Specification of bespoke procured hardware and management of associated sub-contractor development programmes

  • Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques including support to EMC test houses and customer installations

  • Generate design documentation and technical reports and provide Electrical Engineering expertise to the project team

  • Adherence to Engineering Lifecycle and contributing to progress, peer, and design reviews

Your Skills and Experiences

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject

  • Comprehensive/expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas;

  • Specification or design of electrical power systems including AC to DC conversion, distribution, regulation and conditioning including linear and switch-mode supplies

  • Familiarity with Electrical Safety Standards, and ideally EMC qualification to DEF STAN 59-411

  • Familiarity with relevant modelling tools such as Matlab/Simulink would be beneficial as would some awareness of SysML

  • Gathering of evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety

What you’ll be doing:

  • Contributing to the overall design and development of advanced radar systems, supporting the growth of new products from concept through to delivery

Your skills and experiences:

  • Degree in electronics engineering, physics preferred but could have any STEM degree, or experience equivalent
  • Understanding of system integration and design assurance processes with a solid grasp of all hardware disciplines, with multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge
  • Previous experience working with radar systems, particularly AESAs (Active Electronically Scanned Arrays)

Carry out detailed mechanical design and analysis activities to support the development of a complex new product

Act as the Mechanical Design Authority, providing expert-level input across the full product lifecycle

Your skills and experiences:

Demonstrable subject matter expertise in at least one area of Mechanical Engineering (e.g. thermal systems, structures, CFD, FEA, or propulsion), with the ability to provide authoritative technical input

Proven experience in complex mechanical design, including the design, build, integration, and testing of advanced mechanical systems or products

Ability to collate, interpret and translate requirements into effective mechanical design solutions throughout the engineering lifecycle

Familiarity with modelling and simulation tools used for mechanical analysis , such as those assessing structural behaviour under static and dynamic loads

Comfortable working within engineering governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, processes, and best practices

Ideally holds Chartered Engineer status or has equivalent experience and qualifications in a mechanical engineering discipline

Put yourself into a dynamic Power System Design Lead role at the forefront of real world demands in the defence industry. Alongside ensuring operational excellence for our existing products, there will be the opportunity to develop next generation radar products to counter emerging threats and contribution to our strategy for new technology. Your new day-to-day will be exciting and diverse by applying the principles of Systems Engineering across the entire engineering development lifecycle as you join in developing radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design of AC & DC power generation and distribution systems including sizing, protection, control, and the specification of power supplies and converters. This covers design and/or specification of an electrical supply system from 440V AC to circuit board voltage rails

  • Motor drives, control, and positioning systems, EMC management and verification

  • Specification of bespoke procured hardware and management of associated sub-contractor development programmes

  • Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques including support to EMC test houses and customer installations

  • Generate design documentation and technical reports and provide Electrical Engineering expertise to the project team

  • Adherence to Engineering Lifecycle and contributing to progress, peer, and design reviews

Your Skills and Experiences

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject

  • Comprehensive/expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas;

  • Specification or design of electrical power systems including AC to DC conversion, distribution, regulation and conditioning including linear and switch-mode supplies

  • Familiarity with Electrical Safety Standards, and ideally EMC qualification to DEF STAN 59-411

  • Familiarity with relevant modelling tools such as Matlab/Simulink would be beneficial as would some awareness of SysML

  • Gathering of evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety

  • A rigorous approach to the safety aspects associated with high power/high voltage equipment
