**3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer**
We are in search of a **3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer** to join Leidos UK within the Defence Team, based Herefordshire.
In response to the success of the growing business, Leidos requires a number of 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineers to support this expansion by helping to create compelling solutions for our existing and future customers.
**Responsibilities**
The preferred candidate will be primary responsible for the operation and maintenance of MS System Centre Configuration Manager(SCCM)/ Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) but also be demonstrate effective application of Infrastructure and extensive knowledge across a variety of technologies such as Microsoft Windows Server (including services such as AD, DNS, DHCP) and virtualisation (Hyper-V) , Microsoft Stack Technologies (Sharepoint, SQL Server, Skype for Business / Teams), networking technologies and storage.
The role will provide technical exposure variance across both outcomes-based project activities and operational (Business as Usual) support activities. The duties of the role will include on-site support and out of hours on call support.
You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and provide material to support the project work or the operational support service.
**Who do we need?**
We are looking for someone with a passion for infrastructure, ideally from an operational support services background. You will be self-motivated and be able to work autonomously to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with project milestones and customer KPI's and SLA's. You must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.
**Ideally, you will:**
+ Have excellent knowledge of MS System Centre Configuration Manager/ Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM);
+ Have excellent knowledge of Virtualized Environments such as VMware and Hyper-V;
+ Have excellent knowledge of Windows Server Environments, from Server 2003 - 2019, including OS build, AD, DNS, DHCP and GPO from design to implementation and support;
+ Have good general knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies including load balancing and firewalls;
+ Have good general knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, MS System Centre (SCSM, SCOM, SCORCH), Office365, MS Exchange & CLI tooling such as PowerShell;
+ Have good general knowledge of SAN storage technologies;
+ Have excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer;
+ Possess excellent communication skills;
+ Have experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard.

+ Security & Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry best practices, including patch management, vulnerability assessments, and security hardening (e.g., CIS benchmarks, STIG compliance).
+ Automation & Scripting: Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Ansible to streamline system operations and deployments.
+ Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain technical documentation, including system build guides, upgrade procedures, and troubleshooting manuals.
+ System Upgrades & Project Support: Lead system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects, ensuring seamless execution.
+ Logging & Monitoring Integration: Configure and manage RHEL logs for ingestion into a SIEM (Security information and event management) ; integrate Linux systems with SCOM (with assistance from the existing SCOM Infrastructure Engineer) for health monitoring.
+ Antivirus & Endpoint Security: Ensure AV integration and health monitoring within Linux and Windows Server environments.
+ Infrastructure Integration: Collaborate closely with development, security, and operations teams to optimize Linux systems within the broader IT ecosystem.
+ Testing & Validation Support: Oversee execution of test scripts for platform validation, supporting testers and troubleshooting potential issues.
**You will have:**
+ Proven experience as a Senior Linux Engineer, System Administrator, or similar role.
+ Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and manage a technical team.
+ Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
+ Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef).
+ Strong scripting ability in Bash, Python, or Perl.
+ Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.).
+ Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, preferably ServiceNow.
+ Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
+ Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM principles and best practices.
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
**Additional Skills:**
+ Familiarity with security frameworks such as CIS benchmarks and ISO 27001.
+ Experience with log management and SIEM solutions (ArcSight, Splunk, ELK Stack).
+ Hands-on experience with Linux-based high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
+ Familiarity with virtualization technologies.
+ Experience with automated patch management in Linux environments.
+ ServiceNow environment experience is desirable.
+ Experience transitioning of systems to service.
