About the opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile network engineer to join our Amentum International team. The role holder will possess expertise in hybrid environments (on-prem, Azure, SASE). The role holder will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of resilient network infrastructure that ensures optimal reliability, scalability, and performance.
Reporting to the Tech Services Manager, you will be working as a part of a small but highly proactive and passionate team providing remote and on-site network infrastructure support for our enterprise end users (internal users), across the UK, EMEA, APAC (approx. 7,500 users). You will also collaborate with colleagues at our USA central (HQ) technology team.
The base office for this position is in Birchwood Park, Warrington. You will be required to visit the office weekly.
Responsibilities
- Work across BAU operations and projects & programmes
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
- Configure and install software and network devices
- Monitor network performance and integrity
- Resolve support issues that have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
- Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
- Communicate with users when needed
- Maintain complete technical documentation
- Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
- Train and mentor other team members, to ensure cross-training / skilling
Requirements
- F5 and Cisco Meraki skills and experience
- Solid background in network administration and architecture
- In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP)
- Familiarity with access control models and network security
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl) is an advantage
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds)
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco NX-OS, IOS-XE)
- Proven experience with Palo Alto firewalls (Panorama, PAN-OS, LSVPN)
- Highly experienced troubleshooting skills
- Several years of experience working within a large enterprise estate (5,000+ users)
- Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
- Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) or proven knowledge on this level

What you'll be doing:
As a Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer, your expertise will form the backbone of the ICT environment, supporting day-to-day operations and strategic projects:
- Deliver expert 3rd line support for Network infrastructure, hardware, applications, and systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Manage the full lifecycle of Network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls and access points.
- Monitor Network performance and capacity to ensure optimal utilisation, reliability and scalability.
- Configure, build, test, and implement new Network Infrastructure and ICT solutions that meet stringent operational demands, with some involvement in Design work.

Who you are:
We're seeking a proactive, knowledgeable Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment:
- Proven experience in a Network infrastructure support role, ideally within Emergency Services or Blue Light Services industries, or a Managed Service environment.
- Strong operational experience with Cisco Network technologies including routers / routing, switches / switching, firewalls and access points.
- Excellent understanding of key network protocols and concepts such as OSPF, BGP, NAT, TCP/IP routing, load balancing and high availability.
- Experience with VPN technologies such as IPSEC, SSTP, PKI, policy/route-based VPNs and VTI/GRE tunnels.
- Experience working with Cisco Secure Threat Defence (Firepower) and Netgate pfSense firewalls.
- CCNA / CCNP accredited - desirable but not essential.
- Security Cleared to NPPV3 level or eligible to gain NPPV3 and / or SC Clearance
- Holder of a full UK driving license and readiness to travel across Merseyside sites - flexibility required.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
