About the role
We are recruiting Academic Tutors to support us in the delivery of our Engineering provisions, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Working with the delivery teams, you will be involved in the management and delivery of our modules. You will a provide teaching support as/when needed to cover changes to delivery.
We are currently expanding our programme portfolios and student numbers. With over £3 million investment state-of-the-art equipment, you will work alongside our School of Computer Science and Engineering staff in designing and delivering content for various Engineering topics. These include (but not limited to):
o Automation and control
o Digital and Analogue Electronics
o Electrical Power
o Principles of Engineering Management
o Project Management
o Mechanical Principles
o Mechanical Engineering Design
o Manufacturing Principles
What you can bring
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of leading or delivering undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules and/or programmes in Engineering.
- Experience in project supervision at either undergraduate or postgraduate levels
- Assessment marking and providing student feedback

We are seeking a BTEC Tutor to support on the delivery of our BTEC Engineering training to apprentices, at our state of the art training hub in Aston.
To teach on a range of level 2-4 engineering qualifications to apprentices from our sector-leading Technology Hub in Aston. The post holder will need to have a good grounding in delivering across the level 3 BTEC engineering qualification- which particular expertise in supporting apprentices to work semi-independently on Engineering Projects. The post holder will work intensively within our Lean Academy to support the acquisition of new skills across level 2 and 3 in readiness for EPA. The post holder should have a broad experience of the engineering/manufacturing sector, be confident in collaborating with employers and other members of the MakeUK team and be able to support apprentices to deliver to their potential.
Key responsibilities
- To teach across a range of BTEC level 3 units – to include Engineering Project and Communications and Business Improvement Techniques
- To model delivery excellence and professional working behaviours
- To manage and oversee the progress and achievement of the Engineering Project for apprentices
- To coordinate effectively with external delivery team members
- To communicate and advocate for Make UK in managing interactions with employer partners
- To provide a range of support techniques to learners who require additional support to enable them to achieve
- To support the development of course materials including handouts and reference materials to support topic delivery.
- To deliver training to apprentices and staff to ensure all Awarding Body and Centre requirements are met and standardized
- To create a motivational learning environment by providing stimulating and demanding subject delivery that allows learners to acquire the skills and knowledge required
- To assess learners progress by various means of assessment and provide progress feedback and progress reports to learners and managers, to include identifying where appropriate learners at risk
- To ensure learners, colleagues and employers receive timely, accurate and constructive feedback on learners’ achievement, progress and areas for development that aids the learner’s progress.
- To maintain learner discipline in compliance with the Centre’s Disciplinary codes and practices
- To ensure the health and safety of learners and staff
Technical knowledge and experience
- Relevant level 4 subject qualification or higher. Level 3 or higher teacher training qualification.
- Empathy with young people, ability to plan, deliver training and assess outcomes.

- Good presentational and communication skills, literate and numerate.
- Ability to motivate and command learner respect.

VCAD is seeking an Academic Skills and Mentoring Tutor to join our Academic skills, Mentoring and Library Team at our London campuses for London Borough and London Harbour Exchange – South Quay. The successful candidate will provide high-quality of academic skills support, mentoring support and supporting the library services for our students throughout their academic journey. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. As an Academic Skills and Mentoring Tutor, this role requires you to deliver and support the design of academic skills workshops, academic English,
library instructions and mentoring students with research support in an educational setting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver programmes to enhance students’ academic literacy, digital, language and employability skills using appropriate materials and tools.
- Collaborate with academic staff and students to understand resource demands and ensure resources meet learning and research needs.
- Provide mentoring services to students at all levels of the degree journey to ensure that they have understood the topic, assessment tasks and content.
- Provide guidance to students on how to use the e-library and support students using the physical campus library.

Position Overview
VCAD is seeking Academic Skills and Mentoring Tutor to join our Academic skills, Mentoring and Library Team at our new campus in Manchester. The successful candidate will provide high-quality of academic skills support, mentoring support and supporting the library services for our students throughout their academic journey. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. As an Academic Skills and Mentoring Tutor, this role requires you to deliver and support the design of academic skills workshops, academic English, library instructions and mentoring students with research support in an educational setting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver programmes to enhance students’ academic literacy, digital, language and employability skills using appropriate materials and tools.
- Collaborate with academic staff and students to understand resource demands and ensure resources meet learning and research needs.
- Provide mentoring services to students at all levels of the degree journey to ensure that they have understood the topic, assessment tasks and content.
- Provide guidance to students on how to use the e-library and support students using the physical campus library.
- Review library materials regularly to ensure students have the reading materials available for each term.
- Provide library cover as part of team’s weekly rota pattern.
- Provide guidance on the use of print and electronic resources, including referencing and copyright.
- Respond to course requirements and address the specific needs of students.
- Utilise and develop diagnostic tools and online support materials.
- Monitor and support students’ progression in academic English and skills development.
- Tailor academic English and skills support programmes to different student groups and levels.
- Assess and provide feedback on academic English and skills-related assignments.
- Participate in transitional programmes to develop students’ written and verbal communication skills for university study.
- Facilitate the integration of academic and digital literacy into all VCAD courses.
- Collect and analyse data to continuously improve the service.
- Contribute to project work, service planning, policy development, and innovation.
- Develop links with colleagues in other institutions and contribute to external professional bodies and networks.
- Support other duties as requested by the Team Leader or Head of Student Experience and Outcomes.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching and supporting adult learners in HE or FE (at GCSE level or above) with academic writing and skills development.
- Experience of mentoring students in higher or further education settings.
- Understanding of the library’s role in learning and research.
- Experience delivering library instruction and academic skills support in an educational environment.
- Commitment to widening participation and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to motivate students and make academic skills development rewarding and relevant.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and programme design.
- Self-starter with the ability to initiate improvements in teaching.
- Experience in setting and marking examinations and coursework.
- Ability to work in team and share best practices.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time and workload effectively.
- Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Awareness of relevant literature on academic skills development in higher education.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when needed.
- Strong IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to use learning technologies to support a diverse range of learner needs.
- Aware of the challenges in academic writing due to growth of artificial intelligence.

Teaching learning and assessments:
- Ability to use a range of teaching pedagogies like scaffolding, experiential learning and chunk learning to meet the needs of a range of diverse learners when delivering of academic skills.
- Ability to design engaging interactive academic skills works emending learning technologies to develop digital literacy /transferable skills.
- Ability to use a range of formative assessment and feedback approach in session to ensure learners are developing their academic skills.
- Ability to delivery academic skills workshops in any learning environment; face to face, hybrid or fully virtual.
- Ability to provide library instructions to students.
- Ability to act as a mentor to students in providing assessment support and guidance.
- Experience supporting library services.
Communication / Liaison and Networking:
- Confidence in advising and supporting academic staff in integrating skills development into teaching.
- Commitment to high-quality, reflective and collaborative professional practice in higher education.
- Ability to liaise with key stakeholders such as academic faculty members, student engagement and exam team to ensure that we are targeting students that can benefit from our mentoring and academic skills services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complex and ever-changing calendars, scheduling meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for senior academic staff.
- Coordinate and prepare materials for meetings, including agendas, minutes, and supporting documents.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
- Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, managing correspondence via email and phone.
- Assist with the preparation of research proposals, grant applications, and academic publications.
- Organise and coordinate academic events, conferences, and seminars.
- Manage travel logistics, including booking flights, accommodation, and preparing itineraries.

- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and calendar management tools.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
- Experience in coordinating travel arrangements and managing complex itineraries.
- Familiarity with academic research processes, grant applications, or university administration is highly desirable.
- A professional and positive demeanour.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
