This is a key position supporting my clients legal, safety and compliance commitments. The specialist will play a vital part in enhancing alarm management processes to reduce Major Accident Hazard (MAH) risks and ensure consistent policy application across laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with operational subject matter experts to refine and implement alarm policies and practices that align with industry best practice and MAH risk controls.
Guide the design and development of alarm systems that enable effective fault detection and appropriate response measures.
Analyse existing technical designs, monitor system performance and recommend improvements to maintain compliance and effectiveness.
Develop, produce and deliver tailored training materials to upskill staff in alarm system operation and management.
Support and mentor trainee safety and engineering specialists where needed.
Create and maintain clear policy, procedures and guidance documentation for use across the organisation.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven hands-on experience implementing and operating alarm systems, such as Trend, Vista, Schneider EcoStruxure, or Sauter.
Strong background in managing alarm systems within complex or large-scale organisations.
Ability to work closely with on-site engineering teams to develop practical solutions and protocols.
Desirable
Experience managing or delivering programmes in a technical or safety-critical environment.
Electrical engineering knowledge or qualifications.

Minimum Requirement:
This role is required to maintain Dstl's safety, legal and compliance related activities. Dstl must urgently improve its alarms management model which will identify critical steps to protect against Major Accident Hazard (MAH) potential risks and bolster implementation of the Alarms Policy across the lab. The post holder will work with Dstl management to devise an implementation plan to include upskilling of existing resource to enable alarm management across the whole lab.
* The Alarms System Implementation Specialist will work with subject matter experts across Operations within Dstl to understand, further develop and implement the alarm policy and procedures in line with Relevant Good Practice (RGP), understanding how these support alarm system design and management strategies, that also support the management of Major Accident Hazard (MAH) risks.
* The role will guide the development of suitable alarm systems for the business that enable fault identification and drive the necessary responses.
* The Alarms System Implementation Specialist is also integral to the analysis and assessment of technical design of Dstl's alarm systems, their ongoing monitoring and measurement of performance.
* The Specialist will develop processes and then support ongoing alarm system training and awareness raising activities. This will include the development, production, design and delivery of new alarm system training courses and materials.
* They will also provide support to trainee safety and engineering specialist(s).
* The post will also develop alarm policy, procedure and guidance that will be taken forwards by the business.
Essential:
* Experience/skills in the implementation and operation of alarm systems such as: Trend, Vista, Schneider Systems (EcoStruxure) and Sauter Systems.
* Need the above to get the alarms running.
* Previous experience working on alarm systems in a large organisation.
