In this role you will work within the Aero Development Team, employing cutting-edge techniques to deliver aerodynamic performance to the race car. This will involve analyzing computational and wind tunnel data and fostering innovation throughout the design and development process. Team members are encouraged to challenge established thinking and share their ideas to create an environment where everyone can contribute to our shared success.

  • Deliver aerodynamic performance to the race car, by analyzing CFD and wind tunnel data as well as innovating throughout the design and development process
  • Build an understanding of the aerodynamic structures and behaviors around the race car
  • Work with management groups to construct a mutually agreed and communicated aerodynamic development plan
  • Suggest, investigate and, where applicable, implement new methods and processes to improve efficiency of aerodynamic ideas generation, design, testing, analysis, and reporting
  • Contribute to collaborative discussions and efforts to improve whole-car performance, offering ideas and taking on board feedback from others
  • Communicate key findings, opportunities and threats to the Lead Engineer

What do you need to bring to the team?

  • A degree in a relevant discipline (Aerodynamics/Aeronautics) or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, ideally within the motorsport industry
  • Good understanding of the Formula 1® Technical Regulations
  • Good knowledge of CFD methods and analysis of CFD data
  • Experience in directly contributing to aerodynamic development, including planning, organizing and managing aerodynamic development projects against pre-agreed targets
  • Good knowledge with 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA)
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors
  • Clear and concise communication, verbally and written, including with key stakeholders and directors
  • Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture
  • Willing to travel and work flexible hours during race season

Our client, a distinguished aerospace firm, is seeking a Principal Aeronautical Engineer with deep expertise in Aerodynamics to join their team. This role is based at our Aberdeen facility and operates on a hybrid model, blending essential on-site collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. You will lead advanced aerodynamic design and analysis efforts for next-generation aircraft and aerospace systems. Your responsibilities will include developing conceptual aerodynamic designs, performing high-fidelity CFD simulations, and interpreting complex aerodynamic data to optimize aircraft performance, efficiency, and stability. You will also oversee wind tunnel testing campaigns, validate simulation models, and provide expert technical guidance on aerodynamic principles. Key tasks involve contributing to the entire aircraft development lifecycle, from preliminary design through to certification, and mentoring junior aerodynamicists. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering or a closely related field, with a minimum of 10 years of experience specifically in aerospace aerodynamics. Extensive experience with advanced CFD codes (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, Star-CCM+), meshing tools, and post-processing software is mandatory. A strong understanding of aircraft stability and control, flight mechanics, and experimental aerodynamics is also required. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
