At Serco, we have some exciting opportunities for Aircraft Technicians (Merlin) to join us at the Royal Navy Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose, Helston. We're proud to support the IMOS (Integrated Merlin Operational Support) and AESES (Air Engineering and Aviation Support) at RNAS Culdrose, delivering activities ranging from the repair and maintenance of military aircraft to off-aircraft support services. Culdrose is one of the Navy's two principal air bases, and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK.
You'll support aircraft engineering services across both the IMOS and AESAS contracts, supporting operational deliverables and interfaces in a highly regulated environment. Carrying out work as an aircraft engineering fitter, you'll complete contracted tasks ensuring customer policy and regulations are met to a high standard (including the Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) Act 1974 and Customer Policy and Regulations), while ensuring any customer complaints or quality issues and business risks are raised with team leads. You will be entrusted with completing any administration duties required for the role and be committed to attending further training courses to develop your skills and knowledge.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Minimum of 3 years working in an airworthiness environment, relevant experience for the Merlin aircraft or hands on Rotary experience
- Previous experience of working with Merlin aircraft engineering and aircraft systems/ Merlin aircraft servicing and support equipment
- An understanding of Lean Operating Procedures
- An understanding of Naval Air Publications and Compound – Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (CIETP)
- Commitment to adhering to Health and Safety, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, Tool Control and Quality Practices
- An understanding of engineering and asset management systems
- To have completed a Maintenance Human Factors course

Clearance : BPSS required to start
Hourly Rate : 26.92 per hour via Umbrella, inside IR35

What you'll be doing:
- Work from engineering instructions and understand Aircraft Drawings
- Complete tasks to the required standards
- General tasks include the use of power tools for drilling, shimming, and sealing
- 1st party certification will be required following successful completion of the relevant courses
- You may need to work in a confined space (tank work), which includes restricted and physically demanding wing access and egress through oval shaped manholes
Requirements:
- Must have completed an apprenticeship within an engineering discipline i.e: sheet metal worker, aircraft or maintenance technician, tool maker, fitter/turner
- Must hold NVQ L2 + L3 or equivalent in engineering
- Experience using hand tools and previous work experience in a fitter/assembly operator role
- Self-motivation with good communication skills
- An ability to work alone or as part of a team
- An openness to continuous improvement processes and new ways of working
- Knowledge and a high regard for Health and Safety standards

We are seeking a skilled Aircraft Structures Technician to support airframe structural and composite repairs on the C-17 Globemaster fleet at RAF Brize Norton. Working across the structures bay, flight line, and hangar, you will deliver high-quality metal rectification and structural repair solutions in both standard and confined environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural damage assessments, repairs, and replacements of aircraft frame skins and components
- Carry out metal fabrication tasks including drilling, riveting, bolting, countersinking, and corrosion removal to tight tolerances
- Manufacture and install repair parts using aircraft-specific workshop tools and machines
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, and work instructions with precision
- Accurately document maintenance and rectification activities in digital and manual records
- Certify completed work in accordance with regulatory and company quality standards
- Collaborate across teams to ensure effective maintenance scheduling and high operational availability of the aircraft
- Adhere to strict safety protocols when working at height or within confined spaces on the aircraft
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience in metal rectification; aircraft structural repair experience highly desirable
- Completion of a recognised BTEC/ONC/NVQ Level 3 in Civilian or Military Aircraft Engineering
- Familiarity with technical documentation and maintenance record-keeping systems
- Strong understanding of aircraft structural principles and repair techniques
