The Insights team is looking for an Applied Scientist for our London office experienced in generative AI and large models. This is a hands-on role with Prime Video wide impact working with development teams across the UK, India, and the US. This greenfield project will deliver features that reduce the operational load for internal Prime Video builders and for this, you will need to develop personalized recommendations for their services.
You will lead the design of machine learning models that scale to very large quantities of data across multiple dimensions. You will embody scientific rigor, designing and executing experiments to demonstrate the technical effectiveness and business value of your methods. You will work alongside other scientists and engineering teams to deliver your research into production systems.
Successful candidates will have strong technical ability, excellent teamwork and communication skills, and a strong motivation to deliver customer value from their research. Key job responsibilities
- Develop machine learning algorithms for high-scale recommendations problems.

About the team
Our team owns Prime Video observability features for development teams. We consume PBs of logs daily which feed into multiple observability features focussed on reducing the customer impact time. In 2025, we are expanding our remit to consume data from more sources to provide more holistic observability for our development teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Experience in building machine learning models for business application
- Experience in applied research
Preferred Qualifications

A day in the life
A typical day in the Amazon Video Operations Center (AVOC) begins with prepping and testing incoming feeds for live events that day - Events such as; Premier League football, Rugby, Music Concerts and much more!
During the event(s), playback is continuously monitored using automated alerts along with more traditional forms of broadcast monitoring! Should an issue arise Amazon has a highly skilled global team of engineers and developers whom our support engineers work with to quickly mitigate and resolve any issues, to prevent disruption to customers.
Post event, support engineers collate any relevant data points and communicate these out to stakeholders.
About the team
Our primary goal is to deliver a stellar viewing experience for our customers by broadcasting 'disruption-free' live events. When issues arise, we bias on the side of mitigation so that the customer experience can be restored quickly. These are live events.and speed matters!
In addition to executing live events on a daily basis, we also keep an eye on the future.
Execution - We are always looking ahead five quarters to ensure we have trained teams ready to operate all committed events. We regularly review our operations to identify opportunities to improve operator efficiency and performance.
Scale - Our vision involves transitioning to a "manage-by-exception" model which will increase capacity and operational excellence. We will rely on automation to reduce the number of manual tasks. Human intervention will only be required to address anomalies that cannot automatically be addressed.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
- Experience in development or technical support
- knowledge of common streaming protocols and live OTT video delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of web services, distributed systems, and web application development
- Experience working with device technologies under development, familiarity with flashing firmware, basic device debugging and familiarity with reading/pulling device logs
- Experience of a live streaming or live production environment with exposure to video encoding, signal acquisition.
