We are seeking Casual Ambulance Drivers to join our team at the Leah Manning Centre. This role supports existing staff and involves transporting frail, elderly people safely to and from the Centre from various locations around Harlow.
About the Role
Drive and operate Centre transport vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
Provide a reliable, caring service for elderly passengers.
Ensure vehicles are kept clean and taken for scheduled servicing and MOTs.
Work flexible, casual hours to meet service needs (typically 8.30am–11.00am and 2.30pm–4.30pm).
About You
- Full clean driving licence with Category D1 is essential.
- Good geographical knowledge of Harlow.
- Experience of working with older people.
- Willingness to undertake training, or a valid MIDAS certificate.
- Friendly, reliable, and committed to high-quality care and support.
Additional Information
This role is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

As an Ambulance Care Assistant your role will be to transport elderly, disabled, sick or vulnerable people to and from hospital appointments and outpatient clinics.
As well as driving the non-emergency ambulance, you'll work alongside a crewmate to lift & help patients from their homes into and out of the vehicle, and into the hospital/clinic so a good level of physical fitness is required.
Some of your patients will lead isolated lives or be nervous about their visit. This is why we are looking for caring and friendly individuals who are able to reassure and chat with the patient to make their journey as comfortable as possible.
You will be working within a market leading provider of patient transport services for the NHS, with support from a highly experienced training team.
Rota Patterns & Shift Times:
- Our operational hours vary from 05:00-00:00 so you will be expected to work a variety of shifts between early mornings and late nights.

Working closely with flight crews, paramedics, and ground support staff, you will play a key role in delivering the essential ground operations that underpin our air ambulance service, ensuring everything is in place to respond quickly to emergency missions.
This is a hands-on role responsible for all ground-based aspects of air ambulance operations, including manoeuvring aircraft, maintaining and restocking the ambulance, managing site access and security for flights out of hours, and ensuring strict standards of cleanliness and readiness are upheld.

Responsibilities:
Assisting the medical team with loading and unloading of patients on both the aircraft and ambulance
Coordinating and performing aircraft towing, including aircraft manoeuvring in/out of hangar, in line with company towing procedures and ensuring safety of personnel and product
Conducting routine checks and inspections of the ambulance, including fuel levels, tyres, lights, and other essential equipment, when the Emergency Care Assistant is off shift
Assisting and coordinating the refuelling of aircraft with the operations team / operating crew
Ensuring the aircraft and ambulance is cleaned and sanitised after each mission or shift. This includes cleaning windscreens, equipment, and interior and exterior surfaces, adhering to strict infection control guidelines and disinfection procedures
Ensuring the aircraft is equipped with necessary medical supplies and equipment before missions to ensure readiness for the next shift
After a mission, assisting with securing the aircraft in the hangar, as well as putting away vehicles
Managing and disposing of waste materials, including clinical and hazardous waste, according to established procedures and regulations
Providing site access to flight crew, medical personnel and third-party ambulance providers
Ensuring the security of the premises by locking doors, windows, and gates when not in operation, and managing the alarm system
Supporting the facilities team with the cleanliness and tidiness of the hangar, including sweeping floors, cleaning maintenance stands, workshops, and storage areas
Being aware of and adhering to health and safety policies and procedures for all activities
Assisting the ground support team with tasks including inspecting and performing preventive maintenance on vehicles, support equipment, and tools
Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
Essential
Willingness to undergo training in aircraft towing, infection control, and health & safety
Previous experience in similar roles, such as hangar assistant, ground handling, or general maintenance
Experience working in a safety-critical or time-sensitive environment (e.g., aviation, emergency services, logistics, or similar)
Physically capable of lifting, loading, and equipment handling
Strong problem-solving skills and calm under pressure
Clear communication with multidisciplinary teams
Attention to detail and a methodical work approach
Basic IT proficiency (Word, Excel)

Full UK Driving Licence
Must live within 60 minutes of Bournemouth base
