We’re looking for people to join the Co-op Funeralcare team as night ambulance crew. You don’t need experience to do this job, just a genuine desire to help people at the time they need it most. To help you learn the skills you need to help support families in our care, we’ll support you with training along the way. As a part of a specialist night ambulance service, you’ll carry out the collection and transportation of the deceased coming into our care during night hours. This allows us to have a 24-7 operation, supporting our clients whatever time they need us. You’ll be working on a regular shift pattern, with shifts starting at 8pm and ending at 8am.
What you’ll do
• collect the deceased during the night from a range of locations and scenarios, in a professional, empathetic and dignified manner
• carry out support activities whilst at the funeral home, including the care and preparation of the deceased
• work closely with the wider team to make sure there’s a clear hand-over for daytime colleagues
• update and maintain records, on both written and digital platforms, in line with processes and regulation
• report into the care logistics manager, carrying out any requests as instructed

We are looking for a reliable and proactive individual to join us as an Air Ambulance Ground Support Assistant to join our life-saving operations team based in Bournemouth. Working closely with flight crews, paramedics, and ground support staff, you will play a key role in delivering the essential ground operations that underpin our air ambulance service, ensuring everything is in place to respond quickly to emergency missions.
This is a hands-on role responsible for all ground-based aspects of air ambulance operations, including manoeuvring aircraft, maintaining and restocking the ambulance, managing site access and security for flights out of hours, and ensuring strict standards of cleanliness and readiness are upheld.

Responsibilities:
Assisting the medical team with loading and unloading of patients on both the aircraft and ambulance
Coordinating and performing aircraft towing, including aircraft manoeuvring in/out of hangar, in line with company towing procedures and ensuring safety of personnel and product
Conducting routine checks and inspections of the ambulance, including fuel levels, tyres, lights, and other essential equipment, when the Emergency Care Assistant is off shift
Assisting and coordinating the refuelling of aircraft with the operations team / operating crew
Ensuring the aircraft and ambulance is cleaned and sanitised after each mission or shift. This includes cleaning windscreens, equipment, and interior and exterior surfaces, adhering to strict infection control guidelines and disinfection procedures
Ensuring the aircraft is equipped with necessary medical supplies and equipment before missions to ensure readiness for the next shift
After a mission, assisting with securing the aircraft in the hangar, as well as putting away vehicles
Managing and disposing of waste materials, including clinical and hazardous waste, according to established procedures and regulations
Providing site access to flight crew, medical personnel and third-party ambulance providers
Ensuring the security of the premises by locking doors, windows, and gates when not in operation, and managing the alarm system
Supporting the facilities team with the cleanliness and tidiness of the hangar, including sweeping floors, cleaning maintenance stands, workshops, and storage areas
Being aware of and adhering to health and safety policies and procedures for all activities
Assisting the ground support team with tasks including inspecting and performing preventive maintenance on vehicles, support equipment, and tools
Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
Essential
Willingness to undergo training in aircraft towing, infection control, and health & safety
Previous experience in similar roles, such as hangar assistant, ground handling, or general maintenance
Experience working in a safety-critical or time-sensitive environment (e.g., aviation, emergency services, logistics, or similar)
Physically capable of lifting, loading, and equipment handling
Strong problem-solving skills and calm under pressure
Clear communication with multidisciplinary teams
Attention to detail and a methodical work approach
Basic IT proficiency (Word, Excel)
Commitment to reliability, confidentiality, and professionalism
Full UK Driving Licence
Must live within 60 minutes of Bournemouth base
Advantageous
Experience in airport ramp, ground handling, or maintenance roles
Understanding of aviation safety, aircraft cleaning, and support logistics
Familiarity with transporting critically ill patients
Knowledge of clinical waste disposal and vehicle/equipment checks
