Our client, a prominent pharmaceutical research and development company, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Chemist to join their vital team in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK . This role is central to the development and optimization of chemical processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). You will be responsible for designing, executing, and scaling up synthetic routes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards. This position demands a rigorous scientific approach, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of organic chemistry and chemical engineering principles.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in process chemistry, with a strong focus on API development and manufacturing. You should be proficient in route scouting, reaction optimization, impurity profiling, and analytical method development. Experience with hazardous reactions, process safety assessments (e.g., HAZOP), and scale-up challenges is essential. You will work closely with analytical chemists, formulation scientists, and regulatory affairs specialists to advance projects from laboratory scale to pilot plant and potentially commercial production. Strong documentation skills and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are required. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of life-saving medicines.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Designing and optimizing synthetic routes for APIs.
  • Conducting laboratory-scale experiments and process development studies.

Experience with process analytical technology (PAT) and Quality by Design (QbD) principles is advantageous. Familiarity with regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA) for pharmaceutical manufacturing.   • Experience writing MISRA C compliant code.
  • Experience with Infineon TriCore and DSP microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with automatic code generation.
  • Understanding of Agile software development.
  • Knowledge of ASPICE or equivalent.
  • Higher degree in computing, software, controls or relevant subject.
