Job Description:
We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Skills Development Tutor to join a leading Education and Skills provider, delivering high-quality Engineering training in Trafford. In this role, you'll support learners on funded programmes including Apprenticeships and Adult Learning, helping them gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) they need to succeed in their careers.
You’ll be confident in teaching Turning at Levels 2 and 3 and ideally have experience delivering CNC or Precision Grinding at Level 3. The role is a mix of face-to-face and blended digital delivery, including workplace visits to support apprentices and strong engagement with employers throughout the learner journey.
This is a great opportunity for someone who’s passionate about supporting learners, confident with engineering content, and ready to make a real impact on learners and businesses alike.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, accessible training for Engineering learners on a variety of funded programmes.
  • Using initial assessments to set personalised, measurable targets and reviewing learner progress regularly.
  • Accurately marking and giving constructive feedback that supports development and goal achievement.
  • Visiting learners in the workplace to assess progress and maintain strong employer relationships.
  • Tracking learner progress and using data to identify and support those at risk of falling behind.
  • Designing innovative teaching materials that meet curriculum needs and employer expectations.
  • Participating in quality assurance activities and contributing to ongoing curriculum development.
  • Ensuring all safeguarding, health and safety, and learner wellbeing standards are upheld.

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 5 years’ experience teaching and assessing in the Engineering sector.
  • Confident in delivering Turning at Levels 2 and 3, and ideally CNC or Precision Grinding at Level 3.
  • Hold a PTLLS or Assessor Award (training can be provided if needed).
  • Familiar with eLearning platforms and digital tools to support blended learning.
  • Able to manage your workload independently and contribute to a wider team.
  • Sound knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering subject areas.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, risk assessments and health & safety procedures.
  • D32/D33 or A1 essential; D34 or V1 desirable.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include

  • Skills Analysis & Capability Planning:  Conduct deep skills analysis to map current and future capability needs across FH&B, enabling targeted development and transformation.
  • Strategic Talent & Learning Needs:  Partner with People teams and business leaders to identify talent and learning needs aligned to FH&B’s strategy and the People Plan, ensuring a future-ready workforce.
  • Design & Delivery of Development Solutions:  Create and implement tailored learning programmes—including induction, Early Careers, apprenticeships, and upskilling—to address functional and technical skill gaps.
  • Enterprise Contribution & Succession Planning:  Use FH&B insights to inform M&S-wide talent priorities, contribute to enterprise learning initiatives, and facilitate succession planning and talent forums to accelerate career progression.
  • Inclusive Learning Culture & Team Leadership:  Champion inclusive, impactful learning solutions, foster a strong internal learning culture, and manage direct reports to deliver high-quality development.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include

  • Skills & Learning Needs Analysis:  Proven ability to assess current and future capability requirements, identifying skill gaps and aligning learning needs with strategic business goals.
  • Learning Solution Design & Delivery:  Experience designing functional and technical development programmes, including Early Careers and apprenticeships, and managing go-to-market and delivery planning.
  • Talent Planning & Performance Consulting:  Skilled in facilitating talent forums, succession planning, and consulting on performance to drive internal mobility and career progression.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Programme Impact:  Strong communication and influence skills at senior levels, with the ability to evaluate programme effectiveness and translate talent data into actionable insights.
  • Leadership & Sector Experience:  People management experience, ideally gained in large retail or consumer goods organisations with a focus on strategic skill development and internal talent growth.
