Job Description

Do you have Electrical Mechanical (EMECH) Engineering or Manufacturing experience?

Assembly Technician assemble parts and components for new products according to specifications from SOPs. In addition, you might be called to perform diagnostic tests of assembled goods before they're sold to check their efficiency so any adjustments can be made accordingly. Assembly Technicians' responsibilities include constructing items in a warehouse. In addition, they are responsible for building a final product based on instructions and specifications outlined by Engineering. Ultimately, you will work in a fast-paced environment where you will construct various items from smaller parts that will be sold to customers

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assembly of electronic and mechanical components according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality requirements.
  • Ensure production/assembly requirements and deadlines are met as required, and any issues are highlighted to management immediately.
  • Conduct modifications, rework, and repairs using approved methods and tools.
  • Work from layout drawings, point-to-point wire lists and wiring schematics
  • Support the setting up of new assembly processes in collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Install electrical and electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies, using soldering equipment and hand tools
  • Ensure reworks are in line with quality standards.
  • Adhere to and contribute to Quality, Risk Management, and Environmental Plans, including ISO and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Undertake general tasks as required by the supervisor or manager to support production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks


As an Assembly Technician, your primary responsibilities will include:

Reporting to the Process Engineer, a Tube and Assembly Test Technician is required to perform working shifts to play a key role in the processing, final assembly and testing of X-ray tubes ready for their incorporation into scanning machines. This will involve operation of large vacuum bakeout ovens and vacuum equipment, final assembly processes, X-ray tube testing and high voltage tube conditioning.



Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the vacuum bake-out of X-ray tubes including diagnosis and rectification of vacuum leaks.
  • Post bake-out Tube Activation, application of lead plates, tube assembly completion and set up for testing of X-ray tubes.
  • High Voltage conditioning and testing of X-ray tubes.
  • Performing preventative maintenance activities as required on vacuum equipment and high voltage test rigs.
  • Accurate and consistent recording of data including the use of Excel.
  • Use of various plants including vacuum bake-out ovens, conditioning rigs and overhead gantry crane.
  • Provide an on-going contribution to the development/improvement of the above processes and safe working practices.

What the role will involve

Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble bespoke fluid mechanical systems from schematics and engineering drawings, including tubular networks, connectors, valves, pressurized gas/liquid systems, and support fixtures
  • Interpret and construct systems from minimal or conceptual drawings and translate into practical, test-ready assemblie
  • Liaise closely with engineering and test teams to ensure system builds meet specific performance and safety requirements.Install and integrate instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.) into mechanical assemblies
  • Conduct functional checks and troubleshoot fluid systems for leaks, pressure integrity, and performance validation
  • Maintain mechanical equipment and ensure readiness of components and tools required for system builds
  • Ensure safe handling of pressurized systems and compliance with internal safety protocols and industry standards
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews to ensure system suitability for test
  • Contribute to development of site best working practices, and champion efficient ways of working
  • Ensure work is carried out in line with relevant HSE best practices and adhering to local risk assessment procedures
  • Contribute to existing site system operations, including operation of facility hydrogen liquefier, jet fuel equipment and other ancillary equipment
  • Be self motivated and able to complete work to a high standard without direct supervision



Skills / Qualifications

  • Ability to work from schematics, P&IDs, or basic conceptual drawings with minimal supervision
  • Proven hands-on experience in the assembly and integration of fluid mechanical systems (tubing, gas/fluid circuits, fittings, etc.)
  • Familiarity with pressurized gas and fluid systems, including safety considerations
  • Skilled in using general mechanical tools and equipment for assembly and maintenance tasks
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with design and engineering teams
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving during system build and test preparation
  • Experience working in test environments or R&D facilities
  • Knowledge of instrumentation integration (pressure transducers, flow sensors, thermocouples, etc.)
  • Certification or training in mechanical or fluid systems (e.g., NVQ, BTEC, HNC/HND, or equivalent)
  • Awareness of relevant safety standards (e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive, COSHH, etc.).

Job Description

Under general supervision follows process instructions, drawing, test and repair schedules, to assemble, test and repair product and customer returns, to the requirements of the quality management system, and to achieve company and customer requirements.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assemble components to a final configured product utilizing process and drawing instructions and blueprints and specialized tooling and fixtures, measuring equipment and hand tools. Repair and test product utilizing test procedures, drawings, specialized tooling, fixtures measuring equipment and hand tools, incorporating ECN as required. May evaulate customer returns to determine repair actions required to satisfy customer requirement and product build standard. Fault find product to sub-assembly level utilizing drawings and basic test equipment, and may fault find to component level utilizing circuit diagrams. Stage inspection of product at required interval to verify accuracy of work. May final inspect product to relevant dispatch processes and sign release paperwork prior to delivery to customer. May provide training and support to others as required.

Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician - Fareham

Introduction:

The Role:

This role is part of our Saab Seaeye Business Unit.

In this role, you will gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of our product range and have the opportunity to manufacture a range of ROV assemblies from component level through to final testing and sign off. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of real world performance and use fault-finding methods to perform route cause analysis on returned products that require servicing or refurbishment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible and accountable for the manufacture and repair of electro-mechanical assemblies.

  • Have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics to assist with building and fault finding across the product range.

  • To ensure soldering and electrical looming is carried out to a high standard.

  • To assist with pressure and soak testing of all Saab Seaeye components when required, in a timely fashion.

  • To maintain personal ability in, and appropriate use of, all relevant IT (Information & Technology) and other systems required to adequately perform the role

  • Previous experience working on complex medium to large Electro-mechanical and Hydraulic assemblies, down to a component level.

  • Be familiar with 6S principles and lean working initiatives.

  • To maintain a professional and supportive relationship with team members and other departments in order to deliver business and delivery objectives or deadlines.

  • To act ethically, with integrity and in the best interest of the business at all times.

  • To keep good time management to minimise any wasted time and maximise productivity and effectiveness.

  • To use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in day-to-day activities and procedures within the specified role.

  • To carry out any other duties as detailed by your Supervisor or Manager from time to time.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to interpret electro/mechanical/hydraulic schematics.

  • Proven knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering practices.

  • Should have an understanding of electronic manufacturing practices, such as IPC or equivalent.

  • Have the ability to use proven fault finding methods to diagnose electrical and electronic faults to PCB board level.

Desirable Skills:

  • Component level diagnostics would be advantageous

  • A formal qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering - NVQ level 3 or equivalent.

  • Previous use of electronic testing equipment such as oscilloscopes/megger/multi meters.
