Job Description
Marine Insurance Associate – London
Outstanding opportunity for lawyers with marine or broader insurance expertise.
This respected international firm is rapidly expanding its marine insurance capability, driven by a growing demand for high-quality support in complex liability and cargo claims. With a reputation on the rise and an increasingly busy pipeline, the team is looking to hire across a range of experience levels – from NQ through to Legal Director.
The work spans the full spectrum of marine insurance and shipping disputes: hull, cargo, marine liability, wet and dry matters, coverage issues, subrogation, and casualty-related litigation. Charterparty disputes, collisions, GA, and drafting matters are part of the regular diet.
While prior marine insurance experience is ideal, it is by no means essential – candidates with strong insurance litigation experience, especially those familiar with court or LMAA arbitration procedure, are encouraged to apply. Language skills are a bonus, not a requirement.
Lawyers from Australia and New Zealand have historically thrived in this kind of role, even with limited shipping exposure – so if you’ve built a strong practice in insurance but want to broaden into marine, you’ll be seriously considered.
For common law-qualified candidates with appropriate experience, sponsorship may be available.
To find out more about this role and others we are handling, please get in touch in complete confidence. Either send your CV to or call David on for a confidential discussion.

About Navys
At Navys, we are building the most advanced funds lawyer, ever.
Navys is transforming the fund formation process by combining deep legal expertise with AI. This isn’t another chatbot or document summarizer: we are creating the Legal Operating System for funds.
Navys fuses internal legal precision and external regulatory insight into a living system that learns, reasons, and scales with fund professionals.
We are seeking an ambitious Legal Associate to join our team on a full-time basis . This is a unique chance to work alongside experienced private funds lawyers and innovators in a tech-forward environment.
Navys is not just a better tool. It is a different model of how legal software should be built. You will be working on a product that completely reshapes the legal industry. As a Legal Associate, you will play a pivotal part in developing our legal datasets and ensuring the quality of the legal content that powers Navys. You will play a crucial role in training our models, validating legal outputs, and developing the frameworks that make our Legal Operating System truly intelligent.

- Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with relevant legal developments in private capital. Be willing to dive into new topics and quickly get up to speed, ensuring the data you help prepare remains current and relevant.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with our engineering and product teams to refine data collection processes and tools. Provide feedback and insights that help improve Navys’s legal data management and AI outputs.
Must-have technical foundations
- Law degree (LLB/GDL/JD) with at least 1 year of experience in funds but experience with corporate/M&A or financial services regulation with a focus on Private Equity would also be considered.
- Strong understanding of fund formation processes, including limited partnership agreements, side letters, and regulatory filings across various jurisdictions.
- Proven ability to work with structured data and understand how legal processes can be systematized.
- Excellent research and analytical abilities. Capable of reading and understanding complex legal documents, spotting key details and inconsistencies. Meticulous attention to detail.
- Professional, personable and pro-active, with a desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
- Demonstrated interest in legal technology and innovation. Comfortable using digital tools and excited about how AI can augment legal work.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Nice-to-have extras
- Previous experience at a leading law firm (Magic Circle, US elite, or top-tier funds boutique).
- Direct experience in private funds or investment management legal practice.
- Experience with regulatory technology (RegTech) or legal automation platforms.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and natural language processing applications in legal contexts.
- Coding or data science skills, any experience with programming, databases, or data analysis.
You’ll thrive here if
- You are talented, focused and aligned with our mission – we are building a complex product with innovative technology, accordingly we are looking for driven and dynamic candidates who can rise to the challenge.
- You are a strong communicator who gets their point across clearly, and isn't afraid to speak up when things need addressing.
- You are independent, flexible and prepared to take on responsibility early on.
- You are prepared to be accountable for and proud of the work you do and your contributions to the team – everyone has a role to play, none less important than the other.
- You have a genuine interest in how technology can transform legal practice and are excited about building the future of legal services.
What we offer
- Work with a veteran team of ex-employees of leading law firms, tech companies, and AI labs.
- Direct mentorship from senior engineers, private funds lawyers, and product leaders.

Job Description
You might not expect a global chemical manufacturer to be anything but corporate, but we’re different. As an employee-owned business with strong community values, we’re based in a beautiful Grade 2 listed manor house (with an on-site swimming pool!). We’re looking for a full or part-time lawyer to join our friendly legal team and help us keep everything running smoothly in this unique organisation.
As a member of our Legal Team, you will play a critical role in enabling Scott Bader to meet its strategic and operational objectives while ensuring legal and regulatory risks are managed effectively. This is a varied role covering commercial law, compliance, regulatory matters, dispute resolution, and corporate legal support in a global context.
You'll work closely with teams across the global organisation, providing pragmatic legal guidance that supports our values-driven approach. This is an opportunity to not only provide high-quality legal support but to actively shape how legal services are delivered and valued throughout the organisation.
This is a hybrid role, giving you the flexibility to work in a way that suits you. We do, however, believe there’s real value in spending time together in person, so we ask that you join us in the office at least one day a week. It’s a great opportunity to build strong relationships with your new colleagues and experience the unique setting we’re proud of.
Some of your key responsibilities:
- Provide commercially focused legal advice across the global business to support informed and balanced decision-making.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts including supply, service, consultancy, IT/SaaS, distribution, licensing and collaboration agreements.
- Advise on legal compliance across key frameworks including data protection, anti-bribery, competition law, and export controls.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in R&D, commercial and operational teams to protect intellectual property and mitigate legal risks.
- Instruct, manage, and oversee external legal counsel efficiently, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal advice
- Contribute to legal department initiatives, knowledge sharing, and the delivery of legal training across the business.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
- A qualified lawyer
- A background in commercial law, ideally with some in-house experience.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- A collaborative, solution-oriented mindset and ability to manage competing priorities.
- We understand that candidates may not meet every requirement listed above. This description outlines the broad scope of the role and the types of matters you may encounter. If you believe this role aligns with your interests and experience — even if you don’t tick every box — we encourage you to reach out for a conversation. A resourceful mindset, strong judgment, and a collaborative, can-do attitude are often just as important as technical expertise.
What’s in it for me?
- A competitive salary alongside being included into our company bonus scheme. Our Group Staff Bonus & Profit Performance Pay bonus scheme reinforces the Scott Bader principle of working together for a common goal and sharing in our successes.
- Enhanced employer contribution whereby Scott Bader will contribute a maximum of 2x your contribution, up to a maximum of 10%.
- Private medical insurance alongside a host of further discounts and employee benefit schemes
- 25 days annual leave entitlement plus
