**A little more about your role.**
As an Associate / Associate Director, you will provide technical leadership to our design and assessment teams and will use your knowledge and skills to deliver the right quality to time and budget. You will use those attributes to lead design teams and to mentor and support junior team members.
**In this role your responsibilities will include:**
+ Technical leadership of a variety of bridge/ civil engineering design and assessment projects both in the - UK and overseas
+ Project reviews to optimise solutions and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary inputs
+ Managing resources and developing relationships with other teams
+ Agreeing fees and managing the commercial position on projects
+ Leading a culture of technical review and challenge
+ Developing client relationships and leading tenders/ bids
+ Supervision and mentoring of junior members of the team.

With opportunities available across our Cardiff, Bristol, Exeter & Truro offices, our Civil and Bridge Engineering team in the South West & Wales is made up of more than 120 engineers, technicians and project management professionals with a breadth of backgrounds and experience. We are based in WSP's vibrant city centre offices, alongside other teams from our diverse business, with easy access to public transport and city centre amenities.

**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
It is anticipated that you will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer. It is expected that this experience will include the following:
+ Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment, gained from working on both construction sites and the design office;
+ Practical knowledge and experience of project management of bridge projects;
+ Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of structures. Ideally this should include new build, maintenance, assessment and strengthening of bridges and civil structures infrastructure;
+ Proven working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) in relation to structural schemes;
+ Understanding and experience of use of Eurocodes and their application to bridge design;
+ Experience of design in or assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete bridge structures;
+ Experience of grillage, space frame and finite element analysis software packages such as LUSAS, Superstress and SAM;
+ Good communication, client handling and interpersonal skills are essential, plus a willingness to adapt to new challenges and to actively participate in the development of the bridges team.

Associate Director - Development Infrastructure
 
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Associate Director to lead and oversee the design and delivery of development infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on roads, drainage, and utilities for residential and mixed-use developments. This is a senior leadership position responsible for managing both internal and external teams to ensure the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of civil engineering solutions.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Lead and manage the design and delivery of civil engineering infrastructure (S38, S104, S278, S106) for housing, commercial, or mixed-use development projects.
 
·Manage and mentor a team of civil engineers, technicians, and external consultants.
 
·Ensure all infrastructure works comply with relevant design standards (DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations, SuDS guidance, etc.).
 
·Review, approve, and provide technical oversight on detailed designs for roads, drainage, earthworks, and utility systems.
 
·Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively, ensuring successful delivery of multiple projects.
 
·Coordinate and liaise with planning, architecture, construction, and legal teams to align infrastructure delivery with overall project goals.
 
·Maintain relationships with adopting authorities and ensure successful technical approvals and agreements.

Required Experience & Qualifications:
 
·Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

·Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with external consultants.

The successful candidate will have experience within Commercial Property. Guidance and direction are available from more senior members of the Team on more complex matters. Key Responsibilities

General duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Effectively manage an individual caseload (with supervision where appropriate).
  • Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere if needed.
  • Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
  • Maintain your continuing professional development requirements and take an active interest in furthering your knowledge within the field of law.
  • To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm’s standards, procedures and core values.
  • To regularly attend, and be involved in preparation for, Team meetings.
  • To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.

Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with experience of working in Commercial Property.
  • Experience of running their own caseload of matters.
  • Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision on more simple transactions, however guidance is available from more senior members within the Commercial Property Team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to hit the ground running.

Desirable

  • Commercial Property experience is essential, working with Charity institutions is desirable.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Solicitor to join our progressive Information Law Team, to play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing advice given on data protection and privacy and freedom of information across the Education, Charity, Business & Social Enterprise sectors, while actively contributing to the growth and success of the firm. The Team

Our cross-sector Information Law Team undertakes a wide variety of work, such as:

  • Advising on UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
  • Statutory requests for information including subject access requests and FOIA requests.
  • Other individual rights under UK GDPR such as the right to erasure.
  • Drafting information law related documentation including policies, privacy notices, and consent mechanisms.
  • Data breach management and reporting.
  • Advising on and drafting data sharing agreements and data processor agreements in a commercial context, whether on a project specific basis or in connection with mergers in the Education, Charity & Social Enterprise and Business sectors.
  • Compliance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 particularly in relation to direct marketing and fundraising.
  • Handling complaints to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), and liaising with the ICO in relation to such complaints.
  • Advising on privacy by design and data security, including drafting and advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Cookie and website compliance.
  • Conducting external and internal training, as well as delivering webinars.

Requirements

Essential

  • A qualified Solicitor with experience advising on the UK GDPR, the DPA and ideally also FOIA
  • A strong commitment to career development and further learning.
  • Previous experience handling own caseload and ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Someone who performs well under pressure and can manage a sometimes intensive workload.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Previous experience of supervision and development of others.
  • Attention to detail.
  • IT literate including Office 2010.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the Education, Charity and Public Sectors funding arena would be advantageous.
  • CIPPE or equivalent qualification is desirable.

Overview

Are you an Associate Director or Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take ownership on projects and join a growing consultancy with a real passion for quality?

If so then read on – not only is this opportunity unique but it also presents a very achievable progression route to Director level.

Our clients are a currently seeking an Associate Director to join their growing team. The successful candidate should be based within a commutable distance to Bristol, be comfortable with working from home and happy to travel to project/ client sites as and when required.

The ideal candidate will be at Associate Director or Senior QS level currently within a consultancy, have experience of pre-contract project stage and be capable of handling take-offs/ estimating. Preferably with some experience of working client side and with both JCT & NEC.

Successful applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 7years experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably with career progression within consultancy businesses.
  • Experience in commercial or built environment projects, from pre-contract through to delivery stages.
  • Strong knowledge of both NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Capable of managing a small commercial team consisting of assistant and senior QS, whilst reporting into the company directors.
  • Well versed in cost management, valuation, estimating, change management and risk management.
  • MRICS chartered, or similar industry qualification.
  • The successful candidate will be involved with driving the businesses success going forward, must be comfortable communicating with clients and be passionate about the work they deliver.

Expected salary of £65,000 - £80,000 (dependant on experience), hybrid remote working with the requirement for being in the Bristol office a couple of days per week. Excellent growth opportunities available and an achievable career path towards Director title.
