About the Role
The Conflicts Attorney will play a key role in identifying, reviewing, and resolving conflicts of interest related to new business intake and lateral legal hires across the firm’s global offices. This position also involves drafting and maintaining conflict waivers, reviewing Outside Counsel Guidelines, and advising on compliance with professional conduct rules in both the UK and US.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and clear conflicts of interest for new clients, matters, and incoming legal personnel.
- Collaborate with the Director of Conflicts Services and General Counsel’s Office to resolve complex conflict issues.
- Draft and manage conflict waivers and related documentation.
- Review and advise on client Outside Counsel Guidelines to ensure firm compliance.
- Assist with the implementation of ethical walls and related protocols.
- Support the training of new conflicts team members on relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Engage with lawyers and business services professionals across global offices to ensure timely and accurate conflict resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
- JD or equivalent legal qualification; admission to a state bar or current English practising certificate required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in conflicts analysis and resolution within a major law firm or financial institution.
- Strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Proven ability to manage complex conflict scenarios, particularly in transactional and lateral hiring contexts.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with ethical wall implementation and client guideline review is a plus.

This position reports to the Director of Conflict Services (global) and COLP & MLRO (UK), the Associate General Counsel and General Counsel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the identification, resolution, and clearance of potential and actual conflicts of interest as relate to lateral legal personnel new hires and Firm new business in relation to US and English conflict of interest rules.
- Consult with the Director of Conflict Services and General Counsel’s Office as necessary to facilitate clearance and approval on all potential and actual conflicts of interest.
- Follow-up with appropriate lawyer(s) and/or Firm personnel as required to perform any and all above functions, including, but not limited to, obtaining conflicts clearances, waivers and consents, Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement letters.
- Generate and maintain conflicts waivers in furtherance of conflict resolution for use throughout all levels of the Firm.
- Review client Outside Counsel Guidelines and assist with the Firm’s compliance therewith as necessary.
- Assist in the implementation of Ethical Walls as necessary.
- Assist in the training of new Conflicts Analysts and Conflicts Coordinators on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the SRA Code of Conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- JD or legal qualification from an accredited institution required
- Good standing admission to a state or relevant national bar or a current English practising certificate required
- At least two (3) years of demonstrated legal conflicts of interest researching, identification and resolution experience in the Conflicts Department of a major law firm or financial institution required.
- Exceptional working knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations and Model Rules of Professional Conduct, as applicable, across Firm jurisdictions required.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and reconcile potential and actual conflicts of interest in a major law firm required.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, follow through and complete time sensitive projects with minimal supervision in a fast-paced global law firm environment required.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written business communication skills necessary to interact with Partners, Counsel, Associates and other Firm personnel throughout the Firm’s international offices required.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical and organizational skills required.
- Experience analyzing conflicts for complex transactional matters, lateral partners and other legal personnel candidates is strongly preferred.
