You'll also work on physical casing design, 3D printing, and functional testing - bringing entire devices from schematic to finished product.
You'll work closely with our embedded software developers to build the systems that power covert and tactical operations, often being the person who turns ideas into working physical hardware.
This role is primarily on-site (4 days per week), where you'll collaborate directly with users and developers to deliver tools that make a difference.

The lead electronics engineer / project lead will be the main liaison between internal and external hardware development teams. You will oversee outsourced hardware design and integration activities, including the development of custom ASICs and high-performance network interface cards. This will involve working with suppliers in the UK and USA and assure designs meet challenging and evolving requirements and product specifications.
This role demands strong technical direction, supplier management, and program/risk oversight in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Also, good electronics design / development experience would be needed. (e.g. FPGA, ASIC or highspeed network interface or optical transceiver design for photonic devices or similar.)
Candidates may have worked in other arenas involving highspeed network technologies (e.g. network, and data centre hardware, telecoms systems, storage / servers / HPC, consumer electronics or specialist test and measurement products).
Knowledge of high-speed serial interfaces, DAC, ADC peripherals utilising QPSI, DSPI, SPI would be preferred. Also, Xilinx FPGA design, ASIC design, or high-speed RF signal design (>60Ghz) experience would be very useful.
Skills / Experience required: Technical Project Manager / Engineering Leader
- A degree or masters in a relevant subject area (e.g. electronics engineering)
- Extensive industry experience of delivering complex electronics products from concept to production in a similar environment (e.g. optical transceivers, photonics, network / data centre electronics, telecoms systems, storage / servers / HPC, consumer electronics or specialist test and measurement products)
- Strong electronics product development knowledge (ideally FPGA / ASIC related)
- Proven technical leadership and project management capabilities
- Knowledge of highspeed network interface and optical transceiver systems would be preferable
- Knowledge of high-speed serial interfaces, DAC, ADC peripherals utilising QPSI, DSPI, SPI. Also, Xilinx FPGA design, ASIC design, or high-speed RF signal design (>60Ghz) would be excellent.
The Technical Project Manager / Engineering Leader role is based at the offices in Paignton, Devon and at least 3 days onsite per week is required. Some travel may be required between offices to supplier locations. Relocation assistance and working visas may be possible for the right candidate.

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Electronics Engineer to drive new business opportunities, converting them into revenue-generating contracts. This role requires a technical expert with a strong background in electronics design & manufacturing, supplier relationships, and global operations.
The ideal candidate will act as the effective Head of R&D/Electronics, identifying new opportunities, developing quotations, and working closely with estimators and manufacturers (including Far East suppliers) to bring high-quality electronic components to market.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Opportunity Conversion
• Identify new commercial opportunities in the electronics industry.
• Translate technical concepts into viable business proposals & quotations.
• Work with estimators to develop competitive pricing and proposals.
• Engage with clients and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
Electronics Engineering & R&D Leadership
• Oversee the technical feasibility of new electronic component designs.
• Collaborate with global manufacturers (Far East, UK, and beyond) to ensure cost-effective, high-quality production.
• Maintain and enhance the company’s capability in electronics manufacturing and supplier management.
Operational & Supplier Engagement
• Work with global electronics suppliers/manufacturers to improve supply chain efficiency.
• Ensure products meet quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and supplier relationships.
Collaboration & Reporting
• Report directly to the Managing Director.
• Support estimators and administrative staff as required to facilitate business growth.
• Travel where necessary to engage with suppliers, clients, and company sites.
• London-based candidates expected to visit Devon once a month (travel covered).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Electronics Engineering Expertise – Strong technical knowledge of electronic components and manufacturing.
- Business Acumen – Proven ability to identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities.
- Supplier & Manufacturing Knowledge – Understanding of global supply chains, particularly Far East manufacturers.
- Quoting & Estimation Experience – Ability to work with estimators to produce accurate and competitive quotations.
- Project & Operations Management – Experience in managing contracts, suppliers, and production timelines.
- Strong Communication & Leadership – Ability to work with internal teams, external suppliers, and clients to drive business success.
- Flexibility to Travel – As required, primarily between Devon, London, and supplier locations.
