Overview:
First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic lighting business who are looking to recruit a Technical Authority to replace the current Technical Authority who's due to retire at the end of year - so this is an excellent opportunity for a senior lighting design professional looking to embrace a fantastic role!
As a Technical Author, you will be acting as the expert within a specific technical domain, providing leadership and guidance by setting standards, reviewing designs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and making critical technical decisions to guarantee the quality and safety of projects, often with the authority to overrule decisions when necessary, while mentoring and coaching other engineers within their field of expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining technical standards, design guidelines, and procedures to ensure consistency across projects.

Key Skills and Experience
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in a design authority or equivalent technical governance role.
- Strong systems engineering background, with knowledge of:
- Requirements management (e.g. DOORS, Jama or similar tools)
- System modelling and architectural frameworks (e.g. SysML, UML, MBSE approaches)
- Verification and validation processes
- Understanding of software and hardware development lifecycles, including integration and testing.
- Familiarity with safety and cybersecurity assurance in complex systems.
- Knowledge of reliability, maintainability, and in-service support engineering principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, capable of working across multidisciplinary teams.

This individual will work as a member of the Central Service team reporting to the Manager of Central Services. The role will work closely in alliance with the Delegated Authority team, and others within International business to ensure Underwriting support needs are met. The individual will ensure timely and accurate capture of facility risk information in our core underwriting systems. The team supports multiple lines of business within International and therefore prioritisation, planning, stakeholder management and flexibility across products will be critical to success in this role. As a part of this team you will support the Central Service with Delegated Authority entry under International Operations with a focus on Facility data.
