The Role

We’re looking for talented backend developer with proven commercial experience to help us build the core infrastructure that shall power our entire platform. You’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable APIs, data processing pipelines, and backend integrations with third-party services like Stripe, PayPal, and Open Banking providers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain robust RESTful APIs for mobile and web clients.
li>Design and manage databases built in MongoDB and SQL Server to store, query, and aggregate user financial data.
• Develop data ingestion pipelines to process real-time and batch data from external services.
• Optimize backend performance and ensure application scalability and resilience.
• Build authentication and authorization flows, following best practices for fintech-grade security.
• Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with frontend/mobile engineers, product managers, and founders in agile development cycles.
• Contribute to infrastructure decisions (e.g. Docker, container orchestration, cloud services).

Skills & Experience You’ll Need

< i>3+ years’ experience in backend development (ideally in a startup or SaaS environment). < i>Proficient in .Net, Core 8, Razor Pages and Bootstrap 5 for UI.
• Experience with databases such as MongoDB and SQL Server, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure (we use Azure).
• Experience with containerization tools (Docker, Docker Compose) and deployment pipelines.
• Strong understanding of API design, versioning, and security (OAuth, JWT, API tokens).
• Comfortable working with Git, agile methodologies, and CI/CD practices.
• A good understanding of data protection, GDPR, and fintech security requirements.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to event-driven architecture or message queues (e.g. Kafka).
• Experience integrating payment platforms like Stripe, PayPal, Plaid, or Open Banking.
• Exposure to Azure App Services.
• Knowledge of financial systems, accounting, or tax workflows.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of writing and shipping quality, well-documented and well-tested software – preferably in the AI/ML industry. This person should be comfortable with modern, cloud-native computing, and with continuous development and production deployment on cloud platforms to large user populations. Educational or professional background in the biological sciences is a plus but is not necessary; passion to help therapies for new and existing diseases, and a pattern of continuous learning and development is mandatory. Our leaders will be committed to your career and development from day one. Key Responsibilities Back end development for a Python web application. Integration of AI/ML components with frontend, backend, data and compute infrastructure. Responsible for high quality software implementations according to best practices, including automated test suites and documentation. Develop, measure, and monitor key metrics for all tools and services and consistently seek to iterate on and improve them. Participate in code reviews, continuously improving personal standards as well as the wider team and product. Liaise with other technical staff and data engineers in the team and across allied teams, to build an end-to-end pipeline consuming other data products. Minimum Requirements Demonstrated experience of Python backend development (e.g. using FastAPI). Bachelors degree in a relevant field (including computational, numerate or life sciences), or equivalent experience. Cloud experience (e.g. Google Cloud and cloud run preferred) including core web application infrastructure is essential. Strong skills in Python. Unit testing experience (e.g. pytest). Knowledge of agile practices and able to perform in agile software development environments. Strong knowledge of modern software development tools / ways of working (e.g. git/GitHub, DevOps tools for deployment) – should be able to show practice of commit early and deploy often. Preferred Requirements Experience with Docker or containerized applications, especially architecture of multi-container applications. Demonstrated experience with biological or scientific data (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics), or pharmaceutical industry experience. Knowledge of AI/ML approaches and deployment of AI/ML powered applications – especially using language models or NLP and agent-based approaches (e.g. LangGraph, PydanticAI, AutoGen). Knowledge of AI/ML evaluation and benchmarking approaches, experience with iterative improvement of AI/ML models and products. Some experience with frontend software development (e.g. React).
