Requirements
What you'll do:- Create exceptional backend solutions: Work on a range of projects across our client base including new builds, updates to existing websites, API integrations, infrastructure configurations, and other server-side tasks. You’ll work with modern technologies such as PHP, WordPress, MySQL, SQL, Python, Wagtail, Heroku and AWS (S3, CloudFront, RDS) - always with performance, security, and scalability in mind.
- Ensure quality and performance: Write clean, efficient, and secure code following best practices. You’ll test thoroughly, debug issues, and optimise performance to ensure reliable and seamless user experiences. You’ll also contribute to code reviews and help maintain our high technical standards.
- Collaborate and contribute: Work closely with frontend engineers, designers, and client-facing roles to ensure smooth delivery. You’ll communicate directly with clients when needed to explain technical decisions, and support Producers and Support & Solutions Managers in scoping and technical planning.
- Own your work: Take responsibility for the technical quality of your solutions, contribute to internal best practices, and help shape the future of our backend engineering processes. You’ll participate in solution reviews, submit and conduct code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and support continuous improvement.
- Strong experience in backend development using modern frameworks and tools (e.g., PHP, Python, WordPress, Wagtail, Django)
- Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL) and cloud infrastructure (Heroku, AWS, Cloudflare)
- Understanding of performance optimisation, secure coding practices, and scalable system design
- Enthusiasm for working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Working alongside five engineers, a UX designer, and a Product Manager, you'll have the autonomy to drive innovation in areas like social investment features, document and workflow management, and legal template generation. Teams are managed from within and report directly to the CTO, so you'll be working alongside with your manager to solve technical problems.
This is a unique opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the startup world, VC fundraising, investor tax schemes, and more. As you work on complex projects, you'll also gain invaluable domain knowledge that will prepare you for entrepreneurship yourself.
We're an international team of 17 developers from 12 countries, with a hybrid working model that allows for flexibility and collaboration. While each team meets fortnightly at our offices in Holborn to whiteboard, plan, and socialise, you'll also have the freedom to work remotely.

We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to implement Node.js and Rust APIs, extending SQL databases, and writing GraphQL endpoints for external and internal tools. Your job is to implement REST APIs for projects integrating with the BOB Fusion campaign (a points campaign) and other APIs as well as GraphQL endpoints for BOB in the future. You will further maintain the Postgres database to extend and optimize the campaign. You will collaborate with internal teams to create tools that allow us to analyze the data on the BOB L2 internally. You work closely with our BD and product teams to ensure that projects interacting with BOB are successful.
What you will do- Architect and build APIs in Node.js and/or Rust for external partners.
- Extend and optimize the internal Postgres database for the BOB Fusion campaign.
- Build subquery and data-pipelines using Goldsky.
- Build internal tools that allow the BOB team to analyze on-chain data using off-chain data.
- Engage in discussions with the core team on partner requirements and feature roadmap.
Requirements
