As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the Edgewing teams, contributing to secure and resilient system designs while collaborating across multiple disciplines. The Opportunity:
This is not your typical office or laboratory-based role. As a Forensic Mechanical Engineer with this prestigious firm, you will embark on a challenging and intellectually stimulating career, undertaking in-depth investigations into a wide array of engineering failures and incidents. Comprehensive "on-the-job" training in forensic investigation techniques and report preparation is provided, meaning prior forensic experience is not a prerequisite. You will have the unique responsibility of managing technical investigations from their inception at an incident site through to preparing detailed reports and potentially providing expert witness testimony in court. Your Role Will Involve:

- Liaising with equipment suppliers and manufacturers to obtain crucial technical information.

- Giving expert evidence in Court when required.
 
We Are Looking For:
- A minimum of a Master's degree (MSc/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering; a PhD is highly desirable.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IMechE, or actively working towards achieving it.
- While prior forensic experience is not required, demonstrable exposure to Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is essential.
- A strong academic record coupled with practical engineering aptitude and an enthusiasm for complex problem-solving.
- The ability to merge robust theoretical thinking with hands-on practical analysis.
- Excellent self-motivation and the capacity to work effectively under pressure and with minimal supervision following an extensive onboarding and shadowing period.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey intricate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to non-technical audiences.

You will also manage and guide the more junior team members and help with their development.
**About You**
The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is ideally chartered with the IMechE, has experience in mechanical design, and is ideally experienced with pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning.
You will be experienced in producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules, be familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services.
You will be able to provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philsophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. To be successful in this role, you will have strong communication skills and be able to deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, as well as input into collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops, safety reviews, including HAZOPs and ALMs. You will also be able to provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design. You will also have an awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009, and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations. We would also be interested in speaking with candidates who have experience within the energy, infrastructure & water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.
