Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) delivers a comprehensive range of acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services. This role involves delivering high-quality assessment, treatment, advice, and evaluation for patients within the Acute Inpatient Physiotherapy Service, ranging from those who are critically unwell to those requiring minimal rehabilitation or guidance. You will manage patients with diverse and complex physical and psychological needs while working as part of a supportive team. In return, you will have the opportunity to further develop your clinical expertise and enhance your leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of the Physiotherapy service while supporting the Specialty Team Lead in maintaining the highest standards of patient care. You will manage your own caseload independently, ensuring the safe and seamless transfer of care for defined patient groups, while also contributing to service improvement initiatives. In addition, you will supervise and mentor rotational physiotherapists, lead the clinical education of student physiotherapists, and assist with department-wide training. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will liaise closely with patients, carers, and colleagues across the multidisciplinary team, acting as an advocate to safeguard patient wellbeing and promote a positive care experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • To undertake comprehensive assessments and formulating diagnoses for patients with complex or multiple conditions.
  • To analyse findings to set realistic treatment goals and timescales in collaboration with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
  • To ensure patient understanding, consent, and engagement through clear communication, negotiation, and motivation.
  • To select and delivering appropriate treatment techniques such as therapeutic handling, electrotherapy, respiratory care, and exercise-based interventions.
  • To monitor, evaluating, and adjusting treatment programmes to ensure progress and timely, safe discharge planning.
  • To identify inappropriate referrals and directing patients to the most suitable services when physiotherapy is not appropriate.

Person Specification &Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Experience in SystmOne
  • Trained in Moving handling & BLS
  • Experience in Acute Inpatients

Linden Lodge School is a leading provider of education for children and young people aged 2 – 19 years with profound and multiple learning difficulties and sensory impairment, including deaf-blindness, physical disability, and complex medical needs. 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a therapist to join a supportive, highly motivated team and take on the role of managing our physiotherapy service

Our ideal candidate will have clinical experience in working with students with a range of communication, sensory and dysphagia needs as well as significant, proven leadership and management experience. 

You will be leading a team of Physiotherapists whilst supporting continuous improvements within our provision. You need to be an excellent communicator, able inspire and motivate staff and build strong working relationships with both students and their families to enable them to achieve the best possible outcomes. Within this role you will be supported by the Head of Therapies as your manager and work with the school leadership team.

You'll be working with a team of supportive colleagues committed to providing high quality therapy. We will support your development through a commitment to CPD and a protected training budget. The pay and conditions offered reflect NHS Agenda for Change & you can continue with your, or start an, NHS Pension fund within this post.

To promote flexibility and a good work/life balance, we have scope to accommodate both a 52 and a 42 week per year contract around the school term and the opportunity to discuss working hours.
