Director of Engineering – Corporate & Investment Banking Technology
Director of Engineering is required to join the Cross Product team of a global investment banking business. This is a permanent position, at Director level, based in their London office. This role will pay a base salary of between £90,000 - £120,000 (based on experience) - Hybrid working (3 days in office).
This person will lead engineering and DevOps across the banks Cross-Product Platforms, providing technical and strategic direction for systems supporting key Group Functions such as Risk, Finance, and Regulatory Reporting. The Head of Engineering will oversee a distributed team of 30+ engineers and developers across London, Dublin, and India, driving high-quality software delivery, modernising legacy technology, and establishing consistent engineering and platform standards. The role requires a seasoned technology leader with experience in large, global banking environments, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead transformation across complex, multi-domain environments.
Key requirements:
- Proven background managing globally dispersed engineering teams (20-30+ heads) in global banks.
- Experience with Microsoft-based legacy systems (.NET, C#, SQL, Azure, on-prem/cloud) and emerging technologies including Linux, Java, microservices, and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Camunda).
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), version control (GitHub/GitLab/BitBucket), backend/frontend frameworks (Spring Boot, Angular, React), cloud and data platforms (Azure Databricks, Data Lake), monitoring, logging, and test automation tools to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions.

Execute in-depth analyses to support new business development, transaction execution and the delivery of investment banking products and services to clients and prospects. Perform research and financial modeling, apply core valuation methods, and complete due diligence activities at the direction of the Investment Banking team lead. Work closely with client staff to advance projects, gathering necessary information, describing financial modeling methodology, and presenting results directly related to scope of analysis. Provide training and mentorship to summer interns and less experienced Analysts.

- Perform extensive financial/valuation analyses to value debt and equity for mergers, acquisitions and capital raising transactions. Form varied approaches to analyses once fundamental base of approach is set.
- Build financial models to value potential and actual clients and/or industries. Execute core valuation methods, such as comparable companies, precedents and discounted cash flow. Effectively synthesize information to convey complex financial modeling outcomes.
- Perform due diligence, research, analysis and documentation of potential and live transactions. Identify potential deal issues and properly escalate concerns to team members.
- Draft management presentations to highlight financial analysis and research results.
- Assist in the development, production and delivery of proposals and presentations to clients and prospects. Draft marketing materials, emphasizing the advantages of William Blair and its investment banking methods/approach.
- Participate in client meetings and drafting sessions.
- Research industries or sectors, as identified by senior bankers, to target certain clients or industries. Evaluate and improve BIC content. Leverage learnings across deals.

As a UK Software Development Intern (Finance) you will be joining a small team responsible for developing and maintaining internal accounting and controlling web applications. You will write code, design and query databases, manage cloud services and technical compliance in a corporate environment. How You'll Make An Impact
- Develop small/medium changes to applications across the full tech stack, reporting your progress in weekly development standups,
- Familiarise yourself with the existing application landscape, evaluating implementation against 'best practices' and writing automated tests to enshrine existing functionality,
- Providing a "support first" service, acting as first point of contact for application users and escalating common themes or pain points to the development team,
- Act as "first gate" for accepting requirements and incidents into the weekly standup, investigating the technical feasibility/root cause,
- Manage deployments through from image building, through CI/CD pipelines, to container launches, escalating where necessary,
- Partner with our offshore support teams to document existing application processes and technical interventions,
