Job Description
Quant
Our vision is of an empowered, interconnected world.
To achieve it, we’re unlocking the power of blockchain for everyone by building interoperable ecosystems and real-world solutions that simply work - lowering costs, enabling new business, and mitigating risk for our users in the process.
We work with financial institutions, governments, multinational companies, and the partners and fintech developers who support them, to deliver enterprise-grade technology built with security and compliance front of mind.
Founded in 2018, Quant is UK-based with a US presence. We spearheaded the Blockchain ISO Standard TC307 adopted by 57 countries and organisations worldwide and solved interoperability with the creation of the world’s first blockchain-agnostic API gateway, Overledger. Our high-integrity leadership team has deep experience in government, financial services, technology, healthcare, and management consulting.
Our partners include Amazon Web Services and Oracle, and we’re a founding member of the Digital Pound Foundation.
The R&D team
At Quant, our world class R&D team are at the heart of our company, researching cutting edge distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) and building innovative applications that use them. We work in a flexible environment utilising any beneficial process, technique, and/or tool that enables us to focus fully on delivering value at pace and solving problems pragmatically. We are highly collaborative and fiercely protective of our culture. Trust and respect are key to that culture, which is why we’re supportive of one another and don’t shy away from difficult conversations.
Your role
You will be involved in cutting edge research and development in the distributed ledger technology (DLT) domain. You will work with multiple different DLTs to connect them to our main Overledger API gateway product. You will also develop advanced applications that can work across different DLT networks. These applications will focus on interoperability, scalability or privacy use cases.
Key responsibilities
- Translate high-level requirements into research objectives.
- Produce well documented research (written or programmatic) that align with the agreed research objectives.
- To take an active hands-on approach to all aspects of the research lifecycle including research objectives specification, technical design, and when appropriate, prototype development and testing.
- Communicate to others your progress, and shape how your research can be implemented in production environments.
- Collaborate closely with engineering squads to impart your knowledge across.
Our shared values
We have expertise in finance and technology in common but what unites us is our beliefs. We believe in:
- Innovation: We love a challenge and have little respect for the status quo. Experience has taught us that problems are a matter of perspective and that, with new ideas and a fresh way of looking at things, solutions often present themselves.
- Ambition: The scale of a task won’t deter us when we believe it will take as closer to our vision. Every problem is an opportunity. Every obstacle, the chance to take a calculated risk and question assumptions. In short, we’re not afraid to think big.
- Trust: Fundamental to a prosperous economy, trust also lies at the heart of our company. Indeed, we believe it is the bedrock of a healthy society committed to equality and fairness. We trust each other, we engineer trust into our solutions, and we work hard every day to earn the trust of our clients and partners.
- Adaptability: We remain open-minded, objective and flexible at all times. When the facts change, so does our approach. We embrace that agility and encourage all those we work with to do the same.
- Respect: We’re respectful of the ideas and perspectives of others, we celebrate people’s differences and recognise their achievements. We also hold the needs and health of our environment dear. And we have no tolerance for bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.
Requirements
Required skills or experience
- Experience with blockchain/DLT.
- Demonstratable technical and research capability within blockchain/DLT, e.g. interacting with different DLTs, developing smart contracts, analysing consensus protocols, building distributed applications and mastering the related cryptography.
- Good written and verbal communication skills - needed for communicating with a wide range of people, both internally and occasionally externally in a professional manner.
Desirable skills or experience
- Experience with an EVM (Ethereum-based) blockchain and one other type.
- Some experience of building apps/workflows using blockchain.
- Some experience with interoperability focused blockchain applications or infrastructure.
- Experience of working in a dynamic environment often with shifting priorities.
Benefits
Life at Quant
