This includes conducting hazard identification studies (HAZID, HAZOP), risk assessments (LOPA), and quantitative risk analyses (QRA). You will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with all relevant UK and international safety regulations and industry best practices. A key responsibility will involve providing expert guidance and technical support to engineering, operations, and project teams on process safety matters, fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

This hybrid role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of chemical, mechanical, or process engineering principles within the energy sector. You will be involved in the review of safety critical equipment, procedures, and emergency response plans. The Senior Process Safety Engineer will also contribute to incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, you will be expected to stay abreast of emerging safety technologies and methodologies, recommending their adoption where beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and conduct process hazard analyses and risk assessments for new and existing facilities.
  • Develop and update safety procedures, guidelines, and safety cases.
  • Oversee the management of change process from a safety perspective.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., COMAH).
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of the process safety team.
  • Participate in site safety audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety into all project phases.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is essential. A Master's degree or professional accreditation (e.g., IOSH, MIOSH) in safety management is highly desirable. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in process safety engineering, with a significant portion within the upstream, midstream, or downstream energy sectors. Proven experience in HAZOP, LOPA, and QRA. Strong understanding of process safety regulations and standards. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
