The Role
As a Transmission Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery, maintenance and repair of plant and circuits associated equipment at 11kV, 33kV and 132kV.
You will work together with other maintenance, fault and construction engineers to revise the scheduling of individual projects / maintenance activities as required, to ensure the programme objectives are achieved as effectively and efficiently as possible, managing the risk of interruption to supply for our customers.
You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently to manage programmes of work through effective planning and resource management displaying effective leadership skills to control and coordinate work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering construction and maintenance projects at 11kV, 33kV and 132kV
  • Management of Transmission faults
  • Day to day management of framework contractors
  • Managing Customer Interruptions (CI) and Customer Minutes Lost (CML) risk on the 33kV and 132kV network.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Hold a minimum of an HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • Have experience delivering construction projects at 11kV (desirable) with experience at 33kV and 132kV (desirable)
  • Hold minimum authorisation of 11kV SAP (desirable)
  • Hold SAP status at 33kV and 132kV (desirable)

  • Ensure seamless integration of audio systems with broadcast infrastructure, including video feeds and communication systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve audio-related technical issues promptly during live productions.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other technical crew members to achieve the desired sonic outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage audio equipment, including inventory, calibration, and repair coordination.
  • Stay current with advancements in audio technology, including digital audio workstations (DAWs), networking protocols (e.g., Dante), and immersive audio formats.
  • Record and mix audio for pre-produced segments and supplementary broadcast content.
  • Ensure adherence to broadcast standards and best practices for audio quality and delivery.
  • Contribute to technical planning and pre-production meetings for upcoming events.
  • Mentor junior sound engineers and provide technical guidance.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience as a Broadcast Sound Engineer or Live Sound Engineer with extensive broadcast experience.
  • Proven track record of successful sound engineering for major live events, concerts, or television productions.
  • In-depth knowledge of audio signal flow, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and live sound reinforcement techniques.
  • Proficiency with digital audio mixing consoles (e.g., Yamaha CL/QL, Avid Venue, DiGiCo) and associated software.
  • Experience with audio networking protocols such as Dante is essential.
  • Strong understanding of microphone techniques, signal processing, and live audio mixing best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced live production environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams in a remote setting.
  • A portfolio or examples of previous broadcast sound work is highly desirable.
