My client is seeking an HV Cable System Design Specialist to enhance their team. This role involves delivering high-quality cable design projects independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Senior Design Engineer and team to meet project quality, timeliness, and profitability targets.
- Conduct cable system design, studies, and calculations adhering to BSEN/IEC/National Grid/DNO/ENA standards.
- Contribute to cable routing feasibility and design studies, considering local planning and client requirements for optimal solutions.
- Prepare design calculations, including cable sizing and earthing studies.
- Engage with clients to understand and meet project technical requirements.
- Develop design concepts, specifications, and technical documents, coordinating with drafting resources.
- Conduct site inspections for design purposes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate HV cable designs into larger projects.
Quality Systems and Health & Safety:
- Understand legislation impacting Transmission network management for Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
- Prepare and issue QA, environmental, and Safety Documentation per company and client procedures.
- Operate within the quality assurance policies and IMS documents.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree: Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Software Competence: Experience with CYMCAP or similar software.
- Desirable Skills: Knowledge of AutoCAD/MicroStation.
Experience:
- Proven skills in Transmission voltage level underground cable systems design and specification.
- Strong communication skills, diligence, and workload prioritisation.
Key Attributes:

Due to continued growth, we are open to speaking with experienced HV Cable Design Engineers for future opportunities.
We are open to exploring future opportunities in line with our growth across ideally Principal/Senior Engineer levels in our Energy Team. This team presents an exciting opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of projects, across various technical disciplines with clients across country. These projects can include HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, refurbishment works, connections schemes etc.
The role is to work as part of the Cable team on electrical substation design, major renewables, HVDC interconnectors, offshore grids, FEED design etc. You will be working closely with our other disciplines and supporting/leading. Ideally you will have experience in working with key T&D clients in the UK.
You will be joining a growing and collaborative team, working in partnership with a variety of clients to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges. We have ambitious growth plans and as a result there are lots of great development opportunities within our teams. This is an opportunity to play an important part in the U.K. energy transition.

Stantec Energy Transition - UK
**About You**
You will be a pro-active individual with knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission and distribution industry. You will have the capability to coach and work within the wider energy team.
Ideally you will have a Bachelor's/Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field), from an accredited institution and professional registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and ICE is preferred. You will also have experience as civil substation engineer, with a wider awareness of other typical HV civil engineering projects.
Ideally you will also have the following:-
+ You will have experience in the Design (Concept, FEED, and detail design) of transmission & distribution systems - for Utility companies based on International standards.
+ Ability to carry out inter- disciplinary coordination and work effectively with leads to resolve any design issues.
