The Role
We're looking for a CAD Engineer to join a leading manufacturer at their state-of-the-art facility in Newcastle-under-Lyme. In this role, you’ll be responsible for producing accurate 3D CAD drawings for both standard and bespoke products, supporting new product development, engineering changes, and daily order processing.
This is a hands-on role working across departments including production, quality, sales, and R&D, with a strong focus on design accuracy, manufacturability, and continuous improvement.

BAM Infrastructure are seeking a CAD Engineer to join us on a Major Project at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth, Devon, where we are refurbishing the Royal Navy dockyard. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess a couple of years' experience in design. Be competent in auto CAD/CIV3D and have a working knowledge in Revit. Have experience in rebar design and detailing with an eye for detail, able to check and validate drawings/models to and from the client while acting as a support function between site and Document Control.
Due to the site being a high-security military naval base, additional security checks will be required – a BPSS level of security clearance is necessary. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.
Your team
- Operate 4-5 days a week on site in Devonport, as required by site with the remainder working from home.

Making Possible
In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day-to-day will include:
- Act as a subject matter expert for the production of drawings and provide technical support to personnel as and when required.
- Ensure that all drawing work is carried out in compliance with ISO 19650, BAM and CAD standards.
- Provide Drawing production training, both to the team members and to the supply chain.
- Provide support to the Document Control team to review Drawings before submitting to the client.
- Understand the hardware and software requirements on the project and communicate with the BIM Lead and Project information Manager.
- Represent the company where necessary at internal and external meetings.
- Maintain high safety and environmental standards in accordance with company policies and report any inadequacies
What do you bring to the role?
- Degree in related discipline (Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc.) is preferred.
- Able to collaborate and work effectively within a multidisciplinary and diverse team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experienced in rebar design and checking.
- Have good understanding of civil/structural design and principles.
- Have a strong background in producing drawings
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Able to train and mentor site engineers and others to produce in accordance with standards.
- Prior experience of ProjectWise and Revit beneficial but not essential.
- Basic awareness of ISO Level 2 BIM) or BS1192 and associated PAS/BS 1192 codes required.

About the Role
The CAD Engineer will be responsible for creating architectural, mechanical & electrical design drawings and schematics associated with the development of layout building plans, elevations, sections, utility drawings, P&IDs, machinery layout drawings, pipework drawings, and isometrics working within the Projects and Engineering Departments.
Responsibilities
- CAD production of 2D drawings based on the design engineer’s sketches, calculations, and input
- Generating plans, elevations, and isometric drawings from the design engineer’s input while having an appreciation of civil, mechanical, electrical, and process systems
- Production of isometric drawings for pipe fabrication and installation
- Supporting and liaising with the engineering design teams across the group
- Clash detection management and performing QA/QC procedures
- Attending project team meetings as required
- Ability to visit sites and complete surveys to a high standard
- Supporting the engineering design team and liaise with external design teams, on CAD matters as appropriate
- Maintaining and improving the drawing office quality standards and documentation

Qualifications
The successful candidate will be educated to FETAC Level 6 or City & Guilds level with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
Required Skills
- Experience working with CAD in industry
- Experience of AutoCAD and experience in the use of Revit and Inventor or similar, would be advantageous
- Knowledge of M&E services coordination is desirable and knowledge and/or experience in BIM is advantageous
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and prepared to progress with the company
- Ability to work on own initiative and within a multi-disciplined team to meet daily and weekly deadlines
- Range of administrative skills required, involving the use of PCs and PC application software for word processing and spreadsheets.
Desirable Skills
- P&ID skills and experience / pipework design experience is highly advantageous
- Experience working within an M&E design or process design environment
- Experience using Revit M&E, Plant 3D and/or Inventor
- Experience of working within pharmaceutical or food / beverage industries
