This is a five-year appointment initially, with the possibility of renewal by Council for a further three years on the basis of a satisfactory performance review.

The post is full time:

0.8 FTE as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and 0.2 FTE allocated research time.

The successful post-holder will also be appointed to a permanent academic post at the University.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen O'Brien, and supported by a Deputy to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) is a member of the University's senior leadership team (the University Executive Committee, or UEC, chaired by the Vice Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O'Brien).

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of the University's research strategy, providing dynamic intellectual leadership and management for a diverse university with an international outlook that is already performing strongly.

With an exceptional research reputation and profile and significant senior leadership and management experience, you will be an excellent communicator, able to inspire and engage those around you, lead continuous improvement in the quality and impact of the University's research outputs and build effective relationships with University colleagues and peer organisations across the globe. With the ability to think broadly and strategically, you will be someone who can challenge convention, push boundaries, and work innovatively to enhance the international reputation of the University.

Purpose of the Role

Our university client is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Experience) during a critical period of organisational and educational transformation.   • Ensure a robust institutional response to the Office for Students’ regulatory thresholds on student outcomes, and embed performance monitoring and accountability at every level
  • Provide strategic assurance and regular reporting to the Executive and Board of Governors, bringing credibility, data fluency, and sector insight to influence and support high-level decision-making, presenting progress, risk and improvement plans with clarity and authority

  • Ensuring curriculum content is up-to-date, relevant, and meets accreditation requirements.
  • Developing and managing project plans for curriculum development initiatives.
  • Conducting needs assessments and evaluating existing curriculum for effectiveness.
  • Creating diverse learning materials, including online resources, case studies, and interactive activities.
  • Facilitating faculty training on curriculum development and implementation.
  • Maintaining documentation and records related to curriculum development.
  • Staying informed about best practices in curriculum design and educational technology.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of experience in curriculum development, preferably within higher education. Strong knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM), and educational technologies is essential. Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are required. Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, or Canvas is highly desirable. This role requires a creative and detail-oriented individual dedicated to enhancing the educational experience in Nottingham .
