Chef / Kitchen Assistant (Dual Role)
Care Home: Rosedale Court
Hours per week: 16 hours Chef / 20 hours Kitchen Assistant
Salary: 12.21 - 14 an hour
About the role:
We are currently recruiting for a Second Chef and Kitchen Assistant to join our Hospitality team. Working as a Second Chef at Runwood Homes, you will have the chance to deliver hotel and restaurant standard meals, without the split shifts and long hours. We are looking for warm, motivated, and passionate Second Chefs who are driven by quality and high standards, to deliver person centred hospitality to our residents.Our Second Chefs support our Head Chefs, and take the lead in their absence. This role will also involve covering Kitchen Assistant hours where needed.

Key responsibilities:
- To ensure that all stages of food preparation are maintained to the highest standards ensuring the well-being of residents.
- To ensure the cooking and serving of meals are in accordance with the menu, the Company requirements.
- To ensure compliance with the Food Safety & Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 / Food Hygiene Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006
- To ensure the quality of meals produced in terms of presentation and taste.
- To ensure that portion control procedures are maintained ensuring waste is kept to a minimum.
- Ensure individual dietary requirements are met (e.g. high calorie, low sugar etc.) by following appropriate quantity, charts and recipes or adapting dishes if required.
- To ensure that the necessary systems and checks are maintained in order to provide a safe, healthy and efficient working environment.
- To ensure all food and other items are stored correctly.
- To monitor stock, maintain effective stock rotation and place orders where required.
- To deputise for the Head Chef where required.
About you:
The successful Second Chef will have relevant experience within a catering environment. You will have a secure understanding of special dietary and nutritional requirements, and be able to implement methods to ensure these needs are met. You will also have your Food Hygiene Level 2, and ideally an NVQ Level 2.

MAIN PURPOSE
To support the Head Chef with the day to day operation of the catering facility at Edwards Court and to assist in the provision of a comprehensive food offer for the residents of Edwards Court.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (MDR)
1. To provide the highest possible standards of customer care, presentation of food & beverages, hygiene & cleanliness at all times within a healthy & safe environment.
2. To prepare and cook a two course hot meal at lunch time for all residents at Edwards Court (a service that is provided between the Catering Team for 365 days of the year including bank holidays and weekends). This will include any specialised diets that some residents might require including allergies.
3. Working with the Head Chef on any food initiatives and promotions outside of the core food offering listening to feedback from residents.
4. Cover for the Head Chef in managing a small catering team to ensure meals are cooked properly and presented on time i.e. including the staff rota and food ordering.
5. Ensure all the catering areas are kept clean and free of hazards at all times as detailed by Environmental Health.
6. Comply with all health and safety requirements, constantly implementing and assessing procedures and supporting the Head Chef and the catering provision in obtaining and maintaining a food hygiene rating of 5.
7. Cover for the Head Chef (Extra Care) during annual leave or non-working days
8. Provide details and evidence towards any investigations into any complaints or comments in relation to the catering service at Edwards Court
9. To provide occasional ad hoc additional catering to the residents outside of the normal working hours and outside of the normal weekly planned meals
Candidate will need to be IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) trained.
